Setareh Derakhshesh

Setareh Derakhshesh is lead anchor and managing editor of Tonight’s News, a two-part daily live TV program beamed via satellite and the Internet to Iran and the Iranian Diaspora. Ms. Derakhshesh is a multimedia veteran of VOA, with wide-ranging experience since 1993. She is frequently approached to speak on issues concerning Iran.

A graduate of the Sorbonne in Paris, with a Ph.D. in political science, Ms. Derakhshesh is fluent in Farsi, French and English. She uses her trilingual skills to interview people from different walks of life and from inside and outside Iran, the United States and Europe, including Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi, former First Lady Laura Bush, and former President George W. Bush. She covers international conferences and presidential trips to various parts of the world, including South Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Latin America.

In addition to her work at VOA, she has taught at Georgetown University, American University, and George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
