Charlotte's Web
What's radiant, terrific and humble all at the same time? One pig named Wilbur, a spider named Charlotte and the play adaptation of this classic tale.

Founders Day Fiesta
Join the City of Albuquerque as it celebrates its 305th birthday bash at Tiguex Park. The Outdoor Market features vendors from nearby Old Town, food, music, dance. The Founders Day parade begins at 3 p.m. The Parade of Eras will take place around the plaza. There will be plenty of hands-on activities for the kids.
When: Saturday, April 8, 12 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Where: Tiguex Park and Old Town
Cost: Free.

Yjastros: American Flamenco Repertory Company
Yjastros performs flamenco choreographies created by the world's leading flamenco dancers. See flamenco in a repretory format.
When: Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m.
Where: National Hispanic Cultural Center, Journal Theater,
Cost: $20 - $35, $5 off for students/seniors.

Arts in the Parks: Inez Park
Local musicians and performers will perform at this first Arts in the Parks of the season. An artisan market will feature local arts and crafts for sale. See the season's Arts in the Parks calendar.
When: Sunday, April 10, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Where: Inez Park, 2027 Wisconsin NE
Cost: Free.

Peking Acrobats
The Peking Acrobats are jugglers, gymnasts, cyclists and tumblers who entertain with their inspiring athleticism. This is their 25th anniversary tour, which features the Women's Peace Orchestra of China.
When: Sunday, April 10, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Where: UNM Popejoy Hall
Cost: $22 - $35

Albuquerque Beer Week
Find drink specials, pong tournaments, and food with beer pairings in this first ever annual event that showcases beer and Albuquerque breweries. This weekend's events include a homebrew demonstration at La Cumbre Brewing, the 4th annual NM Brewers Guild Golf Tourney, Taps and Tapas, and Beer and Cheese at Marble Brewery (Monday).
When: Various times, all weekend through next weekend.
Where: Various locations.
Cost: Many events are free.

Triangleathon
Join volunteers or become one yourself to build the world's largest fractal triangle. This one will be even bigger than last year's, with 6,561 fractals going into it, made by children from around the world. Be part of what will no doubt be another Guinness World Record event.
When: Sunday, April 10, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Where: Albuquerque Convention Center, East Exhibit Hall
Cost: Free.

Cause of the Week
Ellen Reavis Race for Autism
The third annual Ellen Reavis Race for Autism includes a 10K, 5K and Kid K with awards. It starts at Kit Carson Park and goes north along the river trail. Enjoy the beautiful spring day and help a great cause. Registration continues today until 3 p.m. through Del Norte Sports and Wellness. Proceeds benefit the New Mexico Autism Society. Hear kids broadcast live from the race on KUNM radio's very own The Children's Hour.
When: Saturday, April 9 at 9 a.m.
Where: Kit Carson Park, across from Tingley Beach
Cost: Varies.

Albuquerque Beer Week Features Local Beers

The first annual Albuquerque Beer Week runs April 9 through the 16th, and should keep local enthusiasts HOPping. There will be drink specials at pubs and breweries, beer and food pairings, special tappings, beer pong tournaments and more. The week long event will culminate at the Albuquerque Blues and Brews Event at the Sandia Casino and Resort on Saturday, April 16.

Here are just some of the items on "tap:"

  • Beer and cheese pairings at Marble Brewery from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 11
  • Kelly's Brewpub tour from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13
  • Dukes of Ale homebrew competition finals at the ABQ Blues and Brews event at Sandia Resort on Saturday, April 16.
  • That's just some of what's up. Local breweries are popping up all across the U.S., and Albuquerque is no exception. There are some fine breweries here and some newer ones that are developing a following.

    Old Town Celebrates its 305th Birthday on Saturday, April 9

    Albuquerque will celebrate its birthday this Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. in Old Town. The annual Founders Day Fiesta will celebrate in five areas of Old Town that have been designated to represent the five eras of New Mexico's history.

    The celebrations will include the annual parade, Native dances, a Chautauqua presentation on Billy the Kid, Folklorico dancers, gunslingers and more. A children's area will be set up in Plaza Don Luis, where they can enjoy arts and crafts, face painting, and the fun acrobatics and juggling of Clan Tynker.

    Old Town's center will be closed to traffic. Parking will be available at city and private lots in the area. The bus stops at Central and Rio Grande, and festival goers are encouraged to use the bus as parking is limited.

    The Founders Day event is free.
