Free Fonts from Jos Buivenga's exljbris Font Foundry

Tuesday November 30, 2010

While I do try to keep my font collection somewhat under control, I am often looking for new fonts for graphic design projects. I usually stop by Jos Buivenga's exljbris Font Foundry on a search, which offers 13 well-designed font families for download.

The foundry's fonts include the hugely popular Museo font and Anivers, originally created for Smashing Magazine. While all of the fonts have at least one free style, you'll often find yourself coming back to purchase the full font family. Check out samples of each exljbris font along with links to download each.

HOW's Salary Report

Tuesday November 23, 2010

HOW Magazine's November/December issue features their informative, and well designed, salary report. Showing trends over the last two years for design jobs, the report covers national averages and salaries by region, title and workplace. It also offers up some interesting facts about employee benefits and retirement plans.

Overall, salaries are down 1.5% since 2008, with Southern U.S. cities, along with San Francisco, showing the biggest decreases. Despite the 4% drop in salaries in the Northeast, New York jumped up by 18.5% in the last two years. You can download the full report on the HOW Magazine website.

Friday November 19, 2010

Graphic designers love to create calendars (seen often in Smashing Mag's monthly releases), and I love this one by Oscar Diaz. Using ink to slowly move you through the month, it's beautiful, quirky and functional (as a lot of great design is), even if it wouldn't work in most of our homes.
