Inside the Twisted World of Sideshow Star Albert Cadabra

Wednesday April 27, 2011
Albert CadabraAnyone who can suppress the gag reflex can swallow a sword.

But to swallow a balloon without choking on it -- or, worse yet, popping it?

THAT takes real talent.

And that's Albert Cadabra, a sideshow star who can eat razors, hammer spikes into his face, withstand electrocution, smash a cinder block on his groin, escape a strait jacket and put out a cigar on his tongue... all in a day's work.

Albert and I served as judges at the recent Ripley's Unbelievable Talent Contest -- but anytime you set foot in Ripley's New York, you know who the real star is.

Albert Cadabra.

Albert is the host, star and creator of Ripley's Sideshow Wonders, a daily, live, family-friendly sideshow with performances of the strange and bizarre.

See this Bard College graduate in action in my special tribute gallery, Twisted Magic: Albert Cadabra.

Tuesday April 19, 2011
Mike Leake Mug ShotAll the money in the world can't buy brains.

A Cincinnati Reds pitcher earning $425,000 this year was arrested and charged with shoplifting.

Police say he was caught on camera at Macy's in Cincinnati yanking the security tags out of six American Rag T-shirts -- worth less than $60 combined -- and then leaving the store without paying, according to Cincinnati.com.

And that sent Leake from the Big Leagues... to the Weird Crime Mug Shot Hall of Shame.

"On behalf of the Cincinnati Reds organization, at this time we are advised to not publicly address this matter because of the pending legal proceedings," the team said in a statement.

"However, we do not condone behavior of the type alleged, which is wholly inconsistent with the principles of this organization and our community and is detrimental to the positive direction we seek to follow. When the legal process has been completed, we will handle this matter internally."

Leake himself has said nothing, but issued a statement apologizing for "this distraction" and promising that his "story will be told" in the justice system.

Right now, however, he faces Read More...

Nicolas Cage Arrested After Weird Night Out in New Orleans

Saturday April 16, 2011
Nicolas Cage Mug ShotTalk about a rough night out.

Actor Nicolas Cage was arrested Friday night after an alleged drunken argument with his wife on the streets of New Orleans.

And just check out that weird mug shot.

Cage, a two-time Oscar nominee, allegedly caused a big commotion when he and his wife couldn't agree on where they were staying.

"Cage and his wife were standing in front of a residence that he insisted was the property the couple was renting. She disagreed, and Cage grabbed her by the upper arm and pulled her to what he believed was the correct address. There were no visible signs of injury on his wife's arm," New Orleans Police said in a widely quoted statement.

"The actor then began striking vehicles and later attempted to get into a taxi. At that point, an officer who had been flagged down by onlookers drove up on the couple, immediately observed that Cage was heavily intoxicated and ordered him out of the cab, which prompted Cage to start yelling. The officers subsequently took Cage to Central Lock-up."

Cage was booked on suspicion of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the police and public drunkenness.

And that has me wondering: Read More...
