• House Passes 2011 Spending Bill

    This morning, by a vote of 235-189,  the House passed the Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1) to fund the federal government through September. The measure will now be sent to the Senate, which will take it up when they return from recess on Monday, Feb. 28.

    House lawmakers spent much of the four day debate working through the nearly 600 amendments filed on the 359-page measure. Some key amendments that have passed include: blocking the FCC from implementing net neutrality regulation, banning federal funds to Planned Parenthood and other amendments aimed to defund the national health-care law.     Dodd-Frank Update by Top Regulators

    This week, Congress looked for lessons learned from the 2007-2009 financial collapse by speaking with commission members that investigated the meltdown. This House hearing of dissenting views was echoed the following day by lawmakers during a Senate hearing on the Dodd-Frank bill.

    House Financial Services Committee witnesses included six of the ten FCIC members, including Chairman Phil Angelides along with vice chairman Bill Thomas. The Senate Banking hearing spoke with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Mary Schapiro and others top regulators. More »

  • Lawmakers Discuss Net Neutrality

    By a vote of 244-181, the House passed an amendment on Thursday barring the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from using any funds to implement its “net neutrality” plan. Under the regulations, Internet service providers would not be able to block Internet services and content.

    The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), who filed the amendment, voiced his opposition to the regulations during a hearing this week with FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and the other FCC commissioners. More »
