Japan January core CPI down 0.2% month-on-month

SYDNEY (MarketWatch) -- Japan's core consumer price index declined 0.2% month-on-month in January, according to reports. Economists had expected a 0.3% month-on-month decline, according to data compiled by Dow Jones Newswires. Core CPI excludes fresh food prices. Overall, CPI was reportedly flat on year, and down 0.2% on the month.

UBS reportedy closes probe of alleged Sydney fight

SYDNEY (MarketWatch) -- Swiss banking group UBS has closed a probe of an alleged fight between two equity sales traders on its trading floor in Sydney this week, the Australian newspaper reported on its website on Friday. The alleged incident occurred Tuesday over a stock transaction, according to the report. UBS wasn't immediately available for comment.
