Support and Sponsor

Weekend In Washington

NPR Celebrates 40th Anniversary at Weekend in Washington

Friends and supporters of NPR gathered in November for our annual Weekend in Washington. This year’s event—marking NPR’s 40th anniversary—was the biggest and most ambitious we’ve ever had, with double the attendance of past years and including 100 guests and staff from 18 member stations. The weekend featured panel discussions with NPR hosts and correspondents and an evening conversation between NPR's “Founding Mothers”: Susan Stamberg, Nina Totenberg, Cokie Roberts and Linda Wertheimer and a live show of WNYC’s innovative Radio Lab.

Funding Story

NPR's revenue comes primarily from fees paid by our member stations, contributions from corporate sponsors, institutional foundation grants, gifts from major donors, and fees paid by users of The Public Radio Satellite System. We receive no direct federal funding for operations. The largest share of NPR's revenue comes from program fees and station dues paid by member stations that broadcast NPR programs.
