Current Scholarship Program: Transition Information

On January 1, 2011, we will launch the first set of titles in the JSTOR Current Scholarship Program (CSP), delivering the current issues of more than 100 journals on the JSTOR platform.

Many CSP journals are currently available online directly from their publishers. These titles will be migrating to JSTOR as their primary online platform.  In anticipation of this change, we recently provided libraries and vendors with information about accessing content on the JSTOR platform in order that A-Z lists, link resolvers, OPACs, and library discovery services continue to work well for users.

Below are some important details on the transition.  We will be posting additional information to this site in the coming weeks.

JSTOR Platform Update

On December 18, 2010, JSTOR performed a platform update in support of the Current Scholarship Program. You may learn more about some of the highlights of the platform update via the links below:

Transition Information and Resources

SUBSCRIPTIONS

For the 2011 subscription year, 174 titles from 19 publishers are available through the Current Scholarship Program.

Libraries may subscribe to current issues on a Single Title basis or subscribe to Current Collections that will align the current versions of titles with those in JSTOR Archive Collections.

For both Single Title and Collections, JSTOR provides current issue access back to the “digital availability date" for each title.  In all cases, this means that, if the library subscribes to a JSTOR Archive Collection in which the title appears, and also has a current subscription to the title, users will have seamless access to the full run of the title, from Volume 1, Issue 1 to through the current issue. See below for a listing of titles and their digital availability dates. Access will remain fixed back to this date with each additional subscription year. In addition to current issues, libraries may subscribe to full runs of Single Titles (from Volume 1, Issue 1 to present). Libraries subscribing to a title for the first time may want to take advantage of this option if you do not hold that title in a JSTOR Archive Collection.

LICENSING OPTIONS

In December we will be advising our participants and linking partners of any changes they need to make in their knowledgebases or other linking tools in order to maintain continuity of access. In general, access will be maintained by re-directs from the current access points to the JSTOR platform. The following options are available for CSP journals:

  • Current Collections: Traditional journal subscriptions from multiple publishers bundled as collections that match JSTOR archive collections (e.g. A&S I Current).
  • Current Collection - Full Run: A Current Collection, plus backfiles of each individual title within that Collection.
  • Single Title - Current: a traditional current journal subscription. Available in electronic, plus P+E or P-only for some titles.
  • Single Title - Full Run: The complete run of a single title (Volume 1, Issue 1 through the current issue).

JSTOR will be holding a series of webinars throughout December. These 30-minute sessions will cover what librarians need to know about transitioning access to titles in Current Scholarship Program, with time for Q&A at the end.

ACCESS

Access for subscribing institutions will be initiated from theJSTOR platform on January 1, 2011 or thereafter as journals are released. This access will automatically integrate the CSP journals with any collections libraries already license from JSTOR. Libriaries should check their access after January 1 to ensure subscribed titles are visible and report any problems to us at support@jstor.org.

LINK FORMAT

JSTOR will support DOI, OpenURL, SICI, and direct links to JSTOR stable URLs for CSP journals.

USAGE STATISTICS

Usage statistics for CSP journals will be available from JSTOR beginning January 1, 2011 or upon release for titles that become available after that date. CSP publishers currently providing usage statistics to their existing sites will continue to provide access to them on those sites while they remain available. When those sites close, libraries will be able to gain access to the statistics for those sites by contacting either the publisher or JSTOR.
