Toews, Kane help Blackhawks beat Blues

ST. LOUIS: Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane led a four-goal second period with a goal and assist each, and goalie Corey Crawford had a strong game for the second straight day as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the St. Louis Blues 5-3 on Monday.
Viktor Stalberg and Dave Bolland got the tying goals 1 minute apart early in the second period for the Blackhawks, who trailed 2-0 after the first. Crawford made 31 saves a day after thwarting Pittsburgh in a shootout.
Marian Hossa added an empty-netter with less than a second to go to help Chicago improve to 3-1 without ailing coach Joel Quenneville, recovering from gastrointestinal bleeding caused by an ulcer.
Andy McDonald and Brad Boyes gave the Blues the two-goal lead in the opening period, and Alex Pietrangelo pulled St.
Louis within a goal at 8:48 of the third.
Islanders 5 Panthers 1: At Uniondale, New York, Matt Moulson scored three times for his second straight multigoal game and Al Montoya stopped 20 shots as the New York Islanders cruised past Florida.
Moulson got the Islanders going and added his 25th goal with 5:02 left in the first period, when New York outshot Florida 16-3. Radek Martinek added a power-play goal in the second, and Josh Bailey scored to turn it into a rout.
Moulson completed his hat trick and took the team lead in goals by scoring an empty-netter with 2:37 left.
Montoya has been quite a find for the Islanders, who have used six goalies this season because of injuries. On Saturday, he became the first Islander to post a shutout in his first start when New York topped Los Angeles 3-0.
Capitals 1 Penguins 0: At Pittsburgh, Alex Ovechkin scored the only goal as Washington blanked Pittsburgh.
Michal Neuvirth made 39 saves, including 18 in the first period, for his third shutout of the season, and second straight against the Penguins. Ovechkin secured the Capitals third win in four games by blasting a 35-footer over Marc-Andre Fleury’s right shoulder late in the second period.
Ovechkin’s goal made up for Fleury stoning him on a breakaway in the first period. The Capitals continue to have the on the Penguins, winning their season series 3-0-1 and improving to 10-0-2 since March 2008.
Pens acquire Neal for Goligoski in deal with Stars
The Pittsburgh Penguins began addressing their banged-up lineup by acquiring forward James Neal from the Dallas Stars in exchange for offensive defenseman Alex Goligoski.
As part of the deal, the Penguins also acquired defenseman Matt Niskanen.
The deal was struck on Monday prior to the Penguins’ game against the Washington Capitals.
Neal is in his third NHL season and ranked third on the Stars with 21 goals and fifth with 39 points in 59 games.
The Penguins are down nine regulars to injuries, including captain Sidney Crosby, who is out indefinitely with a concussion.
Goligoski is regarded as an up-and-coming defenseman who has nine goals and 31 points in 60 games in his third NHL season.
