Egypt: More Coverage of the April 6 Youth Protests

April 6th, 2010 by Josh

Freedom House just issued a press release condemning the Egyptian government’s severe treatment of the peaceful April 6 Youth Movement protest earlier today. “Only a government that fears its own people would respond in such a brutal way to a peaceful call for credible elections,” said Jennifer Windsor, executive director of Freedom House. “Egyptians simply want elections that give them a genuine choice.” Building upon that critique, Freedom House Deputy Director Daniel Calingaert added that Egypt is moving in a very poor direction. “Unless electoral reforms are carried out,” he said, “the upcoming elections in Egypt will lack credibility.”

Although police confiscated many of the cameras used to document the demonstration, footage is starting to trickle out via various news outlets.
