Libyan rebels clashed with pro-government forces in eastern Libya on Wednesday as leader Moammar Gadhafi again defied demands to step down.

The fighting included ground clashes and airstrikes by Libyan military planes.

Witnesses said pro-Gadhafi forces stormed into the town of Brega on the Gulf of Sirte and briefly seized its oil installations and an airstrip. Opposition fighters say they recaptured both sites. Later, Western media reported loud booms that they linked to at least two bombings from Libyan aircraft.

Witnesses say military forces carried out an airstrike in the nearby town of Ajdabiya. Both towns are on the western edge of the region of eastern Libya that is now largely under opposition control.

The fighting occurred on the same day that Gadhafi delivered a televised speech to supporters in Tripoli. He said he could not resign because he holds no political office in a system that he said puts all power in the hands of the people.

However, protesters in the rebel-controlled eastern city of Benghazi called for Gadhafi's resignation. They chanted anti-Gadhafi slogans as they burned copies of the Libyan leader's Green Book. Libya has no formal constitution but Gadhafi often refers to the publication, which outlines his political and economic philosophy for the country.

Separately, anti-government activists in eastern Libya called for United Nations-backed air strikes against pro-Gadhafi forces. Libyan dissidents meeting with U.S. officials in Washington this week made similar calls.

The Libyan Human Rights League estimates at least 6,000 people have died in the two-week old uprising. At a conference in Paris on Wednesday, spokesman Ali Zeidan said about half of the deaths were in Tripoli.

Stupid US; you cant win the battle... if US land in Libya soil shall make the bad situation became to wost. Qaddafi is bad Leader but at least He could make sure the oil output from Libya and the best is; he is not al qaeda associate. If Qaddafi is pushed to hard then MDW or mayb nuke bomb shall be used by Him.. Crude oil shall jump to 300pb. US shall make the world economy collapse. Let Arab settle their own way. STUPID US ; LEARN YOUR MISTAKE IN VIETNAM, IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, etc

All African dictators, black and light-skinned, are a threat to the world peace and security. The world needs a more comprehensive approach and solution to dictatorships in the entire African continent. Gadhafi is only the white tip of a more colossal black iceberg with its black tyrants, thieves, and assassins, from Museveni, Kagame, Kabila, Mugabe, etc. All these must be targeted, their assets frozen, and foreign taxpayers’ monies returned to their legitimate owners in the West.

02-03-2011 aroaro (australia/nz/usa)

Apparently some confusion here, VOA - if the personnel depicted in this video are Gaddafi loyalists, the rag-tag volunteer rebel corps may have little to worry about. On the other hand, if this video actually depicts Libya's rebel forces, the people have a LOT to worry about. Doubt they could find their shoes in a closet.

02-03-2011

HIS NAME IS GADDAFI/QADDAFI. GADHAFI IS NOT CORRECT. how is it acceptable for journalists to misspell names? what is happening to the field?

02-03-2011

Dan, how does the US have anything to do with this article? There has been no mention of the US intervening - only providing support where requested by the internation community, since we ALWAYS run to the US when we need help. Dan, please don't breed!

02-03-2011 Su Lee (Canada)

Dan your wrong. America isn't trying to win the battle. They have no plans on trying to invade Libya. They just want to arm the rebel groups and control the airspace so no fighters can be used. Their smart people. Their not gonna invade the Arab world while all the chaos is happening. They got more troubles to worry about. Mainly North Korea. Theres no way Usa would invade a country while all the international countries are staring at it.

02-03-2011 Larry (USA)

That clip is file footage that I saw on CNN last week.

02-03-2011 joey bag of donuts (united snakes of america)

who cares what gaddafi's name is or how to spell it? He's a dick and that's all everyone needs to know. I say go in, rape his family and kill them all then kill all his supporters and then torture him to death. at least that is what I would do

02-03-2011

You mention afghanistan but it seems you fail ti remember that the taliban was run out of most of the country by the northern alliance with the help of US airstrikes. There were very few US troops there at the time. US air strikes can destroy all armor, AA guns, and plans in a few hours. You greatly under estimate the power of air strikes.

02-03-2011 Dan Young's Grammar Sucks

Mr. Young. I can't understand your grammar or logic. You seem to be going off on an unfounded rant based soley on your opinions.

02-03-2011 Steve (USA)

Just go and finish him up. Enough is enough...... 42 years he is not the onny person with brains to rule.

02-03-2011 Scott M (USA)

Dan Young when we take care of Libya we will come to get you.

Until these leaders (ours included) come to know Jesus Christ as their savior and Lord these thing will always happen and always have.

02-03-2011 peter j (australia)

Some uncharitable souls might think the anti-Dan comments reflect an intolerance towards perspectives outside U.S. borders. Why are citizens of the most powerful country in the world so quick to take offence? Any invitation to participate has to come from the right people with the right representation. America will polarize Africa and the Middle East if it steps in without a plain mandate. Bin Ladin must be rubbing his hand in anticipation of a misstep.

02-03-2011 froggy (Australia)

The green book is green communist it will collaspe everywhere including Libya. When that happens the RED book will sure follow, communist in China will fall,in history things turn around in full circles. We have gone to far to the left in most places in the world including Australia, people are been con by their countrymen!FREEDOM!

"All these must be targeted, their assets frozen, and foreign taxpayers’ monies returned to their legitimate owners in the West". The stupidity of this quote beggars belief.

02-03-2011 kalan (usa)

greedy usa and west will never win this oil warin libya, great Qazafi is brave leader, HE will win.

02-03-2011 mercenaries (mercenaries)

Pro-Gadhafi are PAID mercenaries (paid to kill). Gadhafi is now just regular gangster and his mercenaries doesn't represent the Lybian army or country. So it's shoot to kill his body gaurds. Any soldier still protecting Gadhafi will be tried as murderers rather than soldiers. WAR CRIMES. Surrender or die Ghadafi. It's a freedom and democracy movement spreading. Dominoes effect. Ghadafi no longer represent his country. No asslyum or exile for war criminals. surrender or die.

02-03-2011 BANABE (NIGERIA)

The only solution to this problem is base on the effort of the united nations(UN) and the united arab emirate(UAE) the have the final say on this issue. The man is a traitor,a devil of a kind he should be forced out and be executed.

02-03-2011

let us dont make the same mistakes...invade,then get the very people to kick us out of the country. why cant the other nations, like russia, china do the job? who should pay for this? when will we learn tro be self sufficient in oil??? unless we get out of these countries we will always be fighting a people who are Godless! They have a form of religion that has no rational thinking. let these people deal with their own problems.let us wait it out america. dont be quick to help.

02-03-2011 coda (usa)

The internet enables people all over the world to communicate. Power to the moderates, give respect to the people who have the will to fight for a good cause. And if "we the people" then after the fight is won become lazy slothes...all will be lost and given back to the dictators and butchers that always seem to raise their serpent heads!

02-03-2011 mohammed (South africa)

I liked Gaddaffi but now he disappoints me. I do not like him anymore, he is arrogant just like arab leaders who are US 's pappets.

02-03-2011 john (canada)

he is a crazy who want to kill all Libyans and spread blood and hatreds everywhere . he is well known as well as many other leaders from the same region such as Algeria and Tunisia.Egypt who think that they are the only humans who like luxury and for whom this world was created . they are not even satisfied by being rich , but they add to it impoverishing all others. and the best of all their sons want to take after them and inherit it.

02-03-2011 rose (canada)

He is a crazy man who doesn't know how to deal with what is going on, has never grown up sounds like a spoil child. Shows you what oil and riches and money can do. He people need a better leader one who really car4es about his people or her people.

02-03-2011 Paul (USA)

Gaddafi is definitely a bad boy,.. He shut down civilian aircraft over Lockerbie,.. he is best friend of Hugo Chavez,.. and so on,... but he is only one who didn't capitulate on mob's (mostly economic) demands,.. as did other guys in Tunis, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen and so on,... These other guys were (contrary to Gaddafi) all USA friends...

02-03-2011 hosain (bangladesh)

libyan crisis should be resolved by libyan people. no dictator can hold power if majority people do not want.

please for God sake MR GADAFFI try and consider your people they are human, heavenly created as i believe. ruling for 42y is enough now let it be democrat with love

02-03-2011

Is there confusion about whom is fighting in Lybia? This is an uprising by the people and for the people. No foreign interests have intervened as yet, however, if Colonel Moammar Goofy continues to kill his own people, there will be.

02-03-2011 Uday (USA)

Wake up Dan Young, without usa's leadership many countries are out of direction. We show the right path. We help you to lead a better life by providing values and good idealogies. Before commenting on acountry, know the facts and do homework. QADDAFI is a mass killer and we need to understand the pain of loosing a family memeber. What about 8000 peopew already lost their lifes. Lybians should take help from west and free themselves.

02-03-2011 BARB (US)

All of you are failing to realize that middle east and northern African countries, where these uprising are happening will follow in the hands of the Islamic fanatics. They will seize control of the oil supplies and soon they will be using the money we pay them for oil to finance terrorist organization all over the world.

02-03-2011 adam (russia)

hold on for a while Gaddafi! They will call you the best friend.

02-03-2011

Please let there be peace!

02-03-2011 BANABE (NIGERIA)

US president is making a great mistake the world is watching every body is watching, fighting for the oil in lybya, the wont succide it is an embarrassment to the united state government.

02-03-2011 1POV ((USA))

When will the lesson be learned by the few in power of all these countries mentioned that the people hold the keys to the independence, peace and success of their nations. I support the Lybian people that are taking a stand for freedom even if it takes a toll on the economic interest of the US or the World. And, people there are asking for help from countries like the US. Politics aside, many have sacrificed their lives for such a cause as this and will again willingly.

02-03-2011

Apparently the clown will clown his way back to power. .

02-03-2011 David Burns (USA)

Kalan, perhaps you should go to Libya and help the wonderful corporal Ghaddafi. But remember; the man, his family and his backers are greedy people who's interest is solely in power is and money, at the expense of the population. Isn't it amazing the corporal Ghaddafi wants China, Russia, Venezuela and other dictatorships to come to his help? It shows his real colors.

02-03-2011

Just secretly go and arrest him and bring him to US, no need to go to war. We don't want this to be another Iraq.

02-03-2011 Col. Paradis (United States)

I was in Vietnam, and that was a whole different war from Iraq and Afghanistan sir, I would appreciate if you kept your hateful tongue for your own private opinions, for not all people associate themselves with your beliefs. What someone believes is not always truth, and I take the fact with me everywhere I go. Besides, Libya does not have any functioning Nuclear Weapons, but, they have a active chemical weapon arsenal.

02-03-2011 teddo (USA)

Peter J - We take offense because it's so laughable. Every one of these countries where the citizens have 'had enough' and are protesting, have had their leaders come out and blame the US and/or Israel for the protests. They fail to take any responsibility whatsoever, somehow it's our fault. I personally couldn't care less what goes on over there - it's none of my business. Yet I should take the blame for their problems? hmmmm......

02-03-2011 rich (canada)

Wow. A lot of you people use a lot of racist and intolerant remarks. Don't help them because they're godless, one guy blames the US for some reason, and one guy just stopped short from using the "N" word. The sad thing is that they believe in what they're writing. I hope the people of Lybia get what they want so desperately. Namely freedom. One can't expect that the murder of civilians be overlooked by the international community. If there are cries for help, people should help, no?

02-03-2011 Honest

Gaddafi is a bad Communist Muslim, but there is a lot of another Dictator everywhere else . American get to take care of them, GET RID of Them doesn't Friend or Enemy !

02-03-2011 Paul (I)

The only interest America has in Libya is its oil. That miserable country which is devoid of (America)humanity and supports the murder of Palestinian children and innocent people in Afghanistan will hopefully meet the same fate that it did in Vietnam where its killers either came home in bodybags or with their heads hung in shame.

02-03-2011 Brian (USA)

Let the people fight so that they can Earn their freedom so they will respect it and understand what it is like to stand together and be free. USA needs to stay out of this and let things be. We all enjoy a good fight, ? right?

Charlie Sheen for president! he'd know what to do... However, the oil produced in Libya mostly goes to the Euro countries. We just need to impose a no-fly zone and allow it to play out. you don't arm rebels cause that's what we did in Afghanistan and look how that's going. This conflict will end when people get fed up of the Ghadifi and his lies. How can you tell people, there is no danger when buildings. As for the Dan situation, he's entitled to his rants.

02-03-2011 EdH (USA)

aroaro, see http://www.csmonitor.com/World/2011/0222/Gaddafi-Kadafi-Qaddafi-What-s-the-correct-spelling Even Gaddafi/Qaddafi/whatever doesn't even spell his own name the same way every time when translated into Roman characters.

Gadaffi is cursed for being wicked and insensitive to the plight of poor African migrants

02-03-2011 Jim (USA)

What is the difference between Qaddafi's family and a band of strongmen that may replace them? There is hardly any chance the new bandits will be any less oppressive, and in fact they will have even more hunger to get their hands on the oil money. In Lybia, there is hardly even any ideology involved, just a fight to grab the riches which appeared at the moment less than fully protected by the incumbent dictators.

02-03-2011 Rd

I think this is not like both tunusia or egypt, dead tolls has already passed 6000. gaddafi is the big hegemony on libya and the situation looks like he won't resign but nevertheless, I hope it will over as soon as possible

02-03-2011 Mark (USA)

you know Dan you are right. The US should pull out of every country, kick all your people and all the people from the crazy parts of world out of our country and just take care of us. Let you crazies kill each other. We don't need the oil as bad as they think but they deffinately need our purchases. No one likes the police untill they need them and unfortunelately the world looks for the USA to police it.

02-03-2011 Tom (America)

Looks like the same footage of rebels firing AA guns at nothing. Why so little evidence of these slaughters and air strikes. Something smells fishy, especially when people start using unsubstantiated reports to gain support for US/UN intervention: "Mr Cameron said: "It is not acceptable to have a situation where Colonel Gaddafi can be murdering his own people using aeroplanes and helicopter gunships... "

02-03-2011 jay (nevada usa)

WHAT A SHAME ,THAT IN THIS DAY AND TIME ,THAT ONE SINGLE PERSON CAN CAUSE THIS KIND OF CHAOS ,ON ALL OF MANKIND,WITHOUT ANY KIND OF REGARD ,FOR HIS FELLOW MAN , WORLD WIDE. NOT ONLY THIS FELLOW ,BUT OTHER COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. PLACING ROAD BLOCKS UP ,TO OUR DEMOCRATIC COUNTRIES WISHES TO INTERCEDE. IT IS MY HOPE THAT ALL PEOPLE FIND A PLACE OF COMFORT AND REST.SO BE IT.

02-03-2011 Yavuz (Türkiye)

Gaddafi has been supported by USA and some EU countries for many years. And now what happened? Is this only a matter of democracy? Didn't the people of Libya need a democracy 10 years ago? Didn't they reserve to be supported when they were uder pressure of Gaddafi's rogue policies? What is the reason that USA has changed its decision and it has started supporting Libyans?

02-03-2011 onefeather (us)

Why now? all of a sudden "we" care about the people over there, hummm why did we not care a year ago or 10 years ago or 6 months ago, this Gaddafi has been in power for 40 years or more and we did not care then. I do hope he is thrown out. Has to be something besides the people we care about or want.

02-03-2011 (NZ)

I find though he is corrupt he is, thanks to the abundance of fossil feuls in Libya, keeping the country affluent and stable in an economic sense giving him alot of support. The problem truly lies in the short of human rights he is giving his people causing a rift between those whom wish for a wealthy Libya and those for a free Libya.

02-03-2011 Marcgq (USA)

Oppression reigns supreme throughout the world. America has it's oppressed as well. As the rich keep getting richer, it leaves little wealth for all in between. America is not on the road to recovery. America has found a way to numb civilians with it's welfare attitude. This is crippiling the middle class and creating a dynamic top heavy situation. It won't be long before eyes are opened to the divisions in America that can also be viewed as human rights violations.

03-03-2011 Ddungu Musa Evans (Uganda)

I am not surprised if Africa’s leaders remain silent in the face of the ongoing crisis in Libya. Very few African leaders respect human rights; life in Africa is very cheap as most leaders prefer power than protecting the lives of their people. I believe that Kaddafi had lost the quality of good leader, whatever he is doing he will be responsible for it, kaddafi is the same as his friend Museveni the Ugandan president, they are murderers.

03-03-2011 Dmitriy (Russia)

03-03-2011 Duli (Vietnam)

Somethings hide behind the scenes. Firstly, Who can answer my question: which country makes the most of weapons? Then what would you do if the world is peace. No money you can get from your weapons which are going to obsoleted. Secondly, What do Arab countries have? Oil. Tycoons in US always love it. If US can control Arab area, Tycoons can control Oil manufacturing.

03-03-2011 SAMUEL (NIGERIA)

US CLAIMED TO BE CHAMPIONING DEMOCRACY ALL OVER THE WORLD AND THIS IS THE DIRECTION OF THE PEOPLE OF LIBYA WHICH HAD SET THEM AT THE EDGE OF DESTRUCTION.I SUGGEST US AND UN TO USE EVERY POSSIBLE MEANS TO FORCE GADAFI OUT OF POWER BECAUSE,STEPING DOWN IN THIS SITUATION ,TO HIM IS SIGNING HIS DEATH WARRANT WHICH HE CAN NEVER DO

It's the Monarchy/Family lineage that is at an end in the Middle east. Call it democracy, or call it revolution, but when the world stops ruling countries based on family dictation the world becomes a peaceful place. Some of the last places on earth that have this type of leadership, are located in the Middle East. It's time for a change.

Currently the Libyan rebels are asking the US for help. I certainly hope we do not have to get involved more than providing humanitarian relief. There are already too many anti-US conspiracy theories as it is.

03-03-2011 High Evolutionary (Tranquility Base)

While I agree with Dave(UK) that Gaddafi is as vile as the xenomophs of LV-426, nuking Libya from space would be a bit too indiscriminate a solution. What's called for is surgical strikes against Gaddafi's location, any and all anti-aircraft batteries, and any buildings being used to house his forces. A collar-bomb for Gaddafi would be appropriate though.

03-03-2011 Golden Goose (U.S.A)

I agree with Donald Trump on this issue when he say's the United States should take him out and save hundreds or maybe even thousands of lives.... If we do nothing the protesters or whoever ultimately comes out on top will be resentful towards us for allowing them to be massacred. When we are finished make the new Gov't pay the tab. Sound's like a win win to me!

Libyan rebels, be united, supportive, strongly stand up for your beliefs. You will soon be successful in bring 'Gaddafi, his family and his crazy inner circle' down and level them to the ground.

03-03-2011 hamad part 1 of 2 (oman)

Gaddafi searches any plea to strike opposition aggressively and he got it in Al-Qaida and extremists group to justify any attack on protesters . He knew extremely well that the US will get difficulties to deal with this plea because it should justify many blatant violations of human rights which have committed by the US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan under the guise of Al-Qaida .

03-03-2011 hamad part 2 of 2 (oman)

It seems Libyans are ready to sacrifice their lives in order to get some of their essential rights even if Gaddafi strikes them with airstrikes . I think this war will be under two elements , Area and oil source . Who seize more area and oil source can fulfill progress on the ground which could extend this marathon and that will serve the aims of Gaddafi .

03-03-2011 Chu (USA)

I like Mark's comment. USA is like a pretty girl who we'll do any thing to get her. But, once we have for long we'll see her for no value. We never miss any thing until we lost it and we never miss someone until he or she is gone. When you are full you don't want food. Whoever likes Guadafi, go ahead to Libya and help him.

There is no airport at Lockerbie and Dan Young is a cretin. Give Barak Obama some credit please! The US is not going to get involved in another armed conflict unless things get really messy in Libya and then only with UN authority.

03-03-2011 John (Australia)

Why is the world sitting back and letting this dictator murder his own people? The UN should enforce a No Fly zone.

03-03-2011 Harold (Philippines)

Dan Young is a supporter of Gaddafi that lives in indonesia.

03-03-2011 George Thompson (USA)

Anyone who murders his own people deserves a public execution but i dont think the US should get involved other then supplying weapons and food to the rebel forces just to level the playing field

03-03-2011 Wayne (USA)

This article only mentions the US once, yet the vast majority of these ridiculous and ignorant (Not to mention the horrid spelling and grammar) comments are about the US. This is about the people of Libya and the astonishing bravery they are demonstrating. We should all be worrying about how we can all help and support these people as they would want us to, not how we want to. My thoughts are with the people of Libya, may they achieve all that they hope and deserve!

03-03-2011 RodgerDodger13 (USA)

Racist remarks look bad on your country of origin. So stop! Represent! Lessons learned from WWI, WWII, MLK, Obama, and others were supposed to have "cured" us from this bigotry. We as a human race need to learn tolerance for others different from ourselves. I support any action taken whether peaceful or going to war as long as it is what the representatives of the World decide to do. Luckily, we have a SMART president to represent us in this conflict.

03-03-2011 ATLien (USA)

Yavuz, The US suddenly cares because now he is turning on his own citizens and we are looking at a death toll in the 5-6 thousands. Let some of these other dictators start killing it's own citizens and the US will still be there to support freedom oil or no oil.

03-03-2011 Don (USA)

I hope everyone is as (un)impressed with the swift and decisive attention and action from the impotent (Un)United Nations as I am. What a worthless relic. This should be viewed as a civil war which should be settled by the parties involved. I believe that it would be naive for the US to believe that any "help" it might render in this conflict would have any lasting positive benefit for either itself or the citizens of Libya.

03-03-2011 JFerrer (?States of America)

What happened to the no fly zone

03-03-2011

If the US does invade, can we have Charlie Sheen take point?

03-03-2011 Minh (vietnam)

one by one, these dictators who slaughter, imprison and torture their own people must pay heavily price: thrown down by people. Shame on these greedy dictators. Libya, Iran,Qataq ... is the beginning. We will see things will happen in North Korea, China, Vietnam, Venezuela, Cuba.. I beleive our world will be better and peaceful in many aspects in the future.

03-03-2011 Lawrence

God! Gadhafi finally took extreme measures to protect his power. He totally ignores victims of the battle are his people. He should be bitterly criticized for the slaughter.

03-03-2011 UPGRAYEDD (USA)

The U.S. is interested in the oil fields, and are there primarily for that reason. They are trying to establish dialog with those whom they believe will hold power when the dust settles. The Libyan people will naturally want to nationalize the country's oil wealth and use that money to develop and improve their own society. The U.S. will work to establish a regime similar to those currently being overthrown elsewhere in the region who will serve our interests.

03-03-2011 Jim Kendall (USA)

Gaddafi is a Madman, an obvious drug addict. He couldn't care less who dies for him to maintain his hegemony. He believes Libya is HIS, personal-country. He would like to believe that he is a god. Someone close to him must bring home to him his mortality.

03-03-2011 cc (China)

back up Gadhafi strongly.

03-03-2011 vantu (hanoi)

Gadhafi should soon leave his country. He himself has lost confidence for Libyan people. Down with Gadhafi's regime

03-03-2011 flyboiy (United States)

To Dan Young of Indonesia who claims the US should stay out of Libya and that we should of learned our lesson in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan., I googled 'US aid to Indonesia' and found that due to Indonesia's primative living conditions, poverty, lack of basic human sevices, incompetent military leadership and overwhelming government corruption thats led to a general economic collapse, the US has given more than 90 billion dollars in the last decade to pull your sorry asses out of the gutar.

03-03-2011 Jack (UK)

6000 has died, it's time to put an end to this rebel, but too soon for predicting the purpose of this war, all people run in out of this country with assistance from their neighbor citizen. http://www.vinabooking.vn/khach-san/khach-san-tp-ho-chi-minh

03-03-2011 tinyiko (south africa)

I came across a place someone who can treat you as a king or who can spoil you like a queen, this is the great place. It's dedicated for those singles who are seeking age gap relationships - richflirts.C'om - who are rich and successful to support and pamper age gap spouses who will treat you like a king and for woman who are attractive and young to seek a generous benefactor to mentor and take care of you.

03-03-2011 Gh.D (Afghanistan)

I think it is better to Mr. Gadhafi to step down peacefully from his current position rather than killing more innocent people. He'd better stay at home, becuase it is enoungh for him that he led his country: Libya in whatever situation for more than 40 years it is long time. Right now people don't want him to be thiers leader anymore. People may want their freedom, development, ecnomomy advancement and other new changes in thier country leardership.

03-03-2011 fiona (Germany)

wow, most of messages from USA let me know the racism is difinitely human nature^^ but, this is ok, no a shame. the public in other country is as foolish as in USA. this is why human being always kill each other while they are slaughtering other sepcies and murdering the earth.

03-03-2011 Yudhi Mada (Indonesia)

Whole the world should unity to cover the people who flee and want be free from qadaffi. We should protect people and take sanction for qadaffi government that use military action to handle the protesters

03-03-2011 Wang yi (China)

Let Libyan chose their leader.I think it will not be Gahdafi.let the chaos stop.

03-03-2011 danR (Canada)

. If the U.S. is loathe to cross a Russia/China probable veto, I suggest a workaround: Deploy cruise and predator drone forces in the area, as per normal, bring the defected military into the military/CIA command posts, and have them make the decision and press the button (hit the key, whatever), when U.S. specialists have a target (telecommunications tower, airbase, tank, ammo dump, etc.) in the proverbial crosshairs. And say: 'OK. Up to you. Hit the button, or don't. You decide.'

03-03-2011 Lars (USA)

I really hope the US stays out of this one. We've caused enough trouble and blown up enough people (lots of them innocents) in the Mid East already (and were still gonna be stuck there for yrs), no need to start doing it in Africa too. Let the Arab League and A.U sort this one out. It's their turf. Personally I hope the rebels win soon. It seems Gaddaffi's troops have no heart for a real fight. Look how easily they gave up the territory they "won" the other day.

03-03-2011 Lars (USA)

Funny how those Libyan planes keep missing their targets (me thinks the pilots DID NOT want to hit anything). I also hope former president Dubya (and republicans who think like him) are watching all this unfold. THIS Mr. Dubya is how democracy happens in the Mid-East. With common people rising up and fighting for their own rights and freedom from the ground UP. And NOT with American bombs raining DOWN on them! Go go Libyan rebels! May the force be with you!

04-03-2011 Tsetse (USA)

@Lars. Another moronic liberal who still can't communicate without immortalizing Pres. Bush. If you EVER find one Muslim country that is a democracy; ring a bell! Turkey is as close as you'll ever get and its still Islamist rule. More to democracy than free elections.
