Two dead in Oman protests

Two people are known dead after police in Sohar in northern Oman traded rubber bullets and tear gas for rocks from anti-government demonstrators. Sohar is into a second day of such protests.

In the southern port city of Salalah, meantime, protesters have pitched tents outside the offices of the Salalah governor.

Sultan Qaboos has replaced six ministers in an attempt to deal with the situation and avert a revolt along the lines of Tunisia and Egypt.
