After 20 years in Kingdom, Indian unable to save for girls’ treatment

By BADEA ABU AL-NAJA | ARAB NEWS

MAKKAH: An elderly Indian man says after working in Saudi Arabia for more than 20 years he was unable to save SR30,000 needed to treat his two hearing-impaired daughters.

Puthiya Purayil Koya, 58, from Calicut, Kerala, came to the Kingdom hoping to raise money to treat his eldest daughter after doctors suggested that surgery could cure her hearing impairment.

“When my eldest daughter was born doctors said she needed an operation to correct her hearing problem,” Koya said, adding that he decided to come to Saudi Arabia for work in order to raise the money.

“After five years, his second daughter was born with similar problems. Now I have two daughters who need to be operated on,” he said.

Koya said he spent his young years trying to save the money without any success. “After many years of hard labor it became certain that this was an impossible mission. My salary never went beyond SR900,” he said. “I have become desperate. What is the use of the long years I spent away from home if I cannot raise the money to save my own flesh and blood?”

Koya said he started weighing his options to go back and be with his family or to stay here and try to make the needed amount.

“I am not young any more. If I go back home I will not find work and will not be able to feed my family. If I stay here, I will be away from my family in my old age and I will never be able to make the required money. I decided to leave the matter of money and operations in the hands of God and remain in the Kingdom to send what little I can to my family,” he said.

Koya appealed to all those with “soft hearts” to help him and put an end to his misery.

KOYA can go back to india, even if he sell vegetable on the road, he can surive with his family. He can easily make SR.500/- in a month which doesn't need more money. SR.1000/- as a capital. Many people earns a lot in India then what we are earning and saving. For a poor man who earns SR.900/- per month is better to go back. Even Indian govt. is giving jobs under special scheme called "Indra Gandhi Rozgar Yojna" where he will get 100 days guaranteed job. Or govt. will pay for 100 days job if they didn't find the job for him.

But a helping hand will help him atleast to save and send to the treatment for his daughters. May Allah help his family.

-- Asalaamalaikum WarahmatALLAH Wabarkatu: Dear Author- Mr. Badea Abu Al-Naja: We have three refurbished but excellent working digital hearing aids that we would like to give to this father for his daughters. Even if they were to qualify financially for cochlear implant surgeries, it is risky at older ages if one these women have not had experienced sound for the greater part of their lives. They need to have comprehensive evaluations to see if they qualify. If they are in Saudi they can contact us so we can tell them what centers in Saudi offer appropriate service. We would also be pleased to write advocacy letters on their behalf to specialists, ministries, or charity organizations in getting the care they need. People with special needs are gifts from Allah to our world. We have tried contacting ArabNews directly on the 'Contact us' page but the form is not working efficiently. So we kindly away your response to the email we have provided. May Allah reward you for your efforts and help this father and parents like him advocate for their children with special needs in everyway. Sincerely, Family in Madinah Munawarrah

JUSTICE PLEASE

I don't understand why there is no justice done to foreigners in the kingdom. We work with our heart and soul and contribute to the growth of the wealth of the country. We don't get acknowleged, when the King gives benefits only the locals get it, while we feel dealt with unjustly because we work as well, why doesn't the govt. recognize that. It's good to support your citizens but realistically speaking look at us,, we have become more saudi than our own countries citizens. to degrade those who love you is not the way to create jobs for your own.

I do not belive, that after working for 20 years, his salary did not go beyond SR.900/-, unless he is lazzy and does not want to work.

Even those who take care of resident buildings (Haris) whose salary varies from SR. 800 to 1200, make about SR.2000+ washing cars of the residents and doing some errends of the residents.

There are some in the cleaning work whose salary may be SR.500 or below, earn sufficient to take of their families, working during spare time.

This story breaks my heart. I will ask God to heal both his daughters, and for provision to come to him. Twenty years is a long time to wait for something like this!! I am sure his patience will be rewarded, and that blessings will start pouring down upon the girls within the coming months. All my best
