Alberta ranked as world’s top mining jurisdiction

Miners saw the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Nevada and Saskatchewan as jurisdictions with the most appealing mining policies, but Quebec and Manitoba also made it into the top 10.

Nevada is a province of Canada? Really? This is great news! Finally somewhere I can go to escape winter that is still Canadian territory.

Sorry to be so sarcastic… it’s cold here in Alberta.

Buxom actress dies?

Buxom actress Jane Russell dead at 89

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” movie star Jane Russell, who became a controversial Hollywood sex symbol, died on Monday at the age of 89, her family said.

I was very disturbed at the title “Buxom actress Jane Russell dead at 89″ for your news article about her death today.

She was a human being. I never met her, but she – and her family – should have been shown more respect.

COMMENT

From what I have read about her, she had a great sense of humor and probably would be laughing at the coverage.

She was buxom, and she is dead. I’d rather see Reuters tell the unvarnished truth than tell a socially palatable version for the mentally feeble.

Whose fists are those?

Photo

You incorrectly headlined a video clip “Protesters pump fists at Wisconsin lawmakers.”

Those are actually Democratic lawmakers pumping fists at Republican lawmakers after the surprise vote late Thursday night in the State Assembly.

Protesters are not allowed inside the chamber, they are out of camera range in the gallery.

COMMENT

Good catch, at first glance the orange t-shirts looked like prison jumpsuits. Clearly not the case!

What’s her title today?

New Zealand rescuers sift rubble, quake toll reaches 75

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth offered her sympathy for the former British colony and said in a statement she was “utterly shocked.”

There is an error with the sentence “Britain’s Queen Elizabeth offered her sympathy for the former British colony…”.

The message of sympathy was from the Queen of New Zealand to her people in the affected area.

Ad placement?

Well done, informative article announcing the conclusion that Assange will be extradited, face charges for alleged sex crimes.

Sponsor of page = viagra. Disgusting.

COMMENT

hmmm… I think the story was just a Trojan horse by Reuters to slip in the ad.

Word choice invites criticism

Ride the royal bus tour of Kate Middleton’s life

News that Britain’s royal wedding invites are in the post has touched off lively press speculation, with former England soccer captain David Beckham and the King of Bahrain tipped to be attending but not U.S. President Barack Obama or William’s aunt, Sarah Ferguson.

Will you please tell your journalists that “invite” is never used as a noun!  The word is invitation. They sound like hillbillies.

Square or round?

Bahrain opposition meets to agree demands

Protesters swept back into Pearl Square late on Saturday after Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa ordered troops and armored vehicles to withdraw and offered to lead a national dialogue after days of unrest that left six dead.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could you stop referring to ‘Pearl Square’ in your Bahrain news reports as there is no such place. The area in which the protests are being held is the Pearl Roundabout in Manama.

I see the point but there are bigger issues at stake here.

The wrong tomb?

Photo

You have the wrong information in a photo caption.

The Photo is Benedict XVI praying in front of tomb of John Paul I. John Paul II is buried in ground, and has a slanting tombstone.

A bad choice of photos…

Photo

You are showing one of our vessels (the Rotterdam Express) on your homepage with an article on a ship which blocks the Suez Canal. None of our vessels is involved in the incident and I have to ask you to remove the photo immediately from this article.

If you have sent this archive photo from Dec. 2005 out to customers in connection with this story please call the photo back. It suggests that our vessel broke down in the Suez Canal what is definitely not the case.

All the news that’s fit to print?

How come there is no longer a print button for articles on your Website? It makes it particularly difficult when a story runs two, three and four pages.
