The top ten Republican thinkers
Dec 6th 2010, 17:34 by Lexington
MODERATE voices in the Republican Party aren't reaching the grassroots, or so it seems from the results of a poll by ConservativeHome.com, seeking to discover which pundits will most influence party activists as presidential candidates for 2012 emerge. The poll gives Rush Limbaugh the number one spot and Glenn Beck the second. Here's the full list:

Shouldn't this post be titled "Top Ten Republican Non-Thinkers"?
Can anybody who advocates paying down the debt by cutting the revenue stream and simultaneously maintaining 99% of current spending be considered to be "thinking"?
Can anybody who advocates "Freedom", "Liberty", and "Personal Responsibility" yet also advocates imprisoning more citizens per capita than any other country -- a huge number for victimless crimes -- be said to be "thinking"?
To quote Inigo Montoya vis a vis "thinking":
"I do not think it means what you think it means."
1.5 worthwhile "thinkers" on this list. Sigh ... the Economist editorial from a few months ago lambasting the right made some good points. Obama is pretty bad and needs some serious opposition. That doesn't seem to be coming from the American right these days.
We need two new parties - the "classic" liberals and the democratic socialists.
And they'd all fit into one tiny polka-dotted car.
Great. Now show me a list of the top ten Democratic "thinkers" (defined the same way, as "which pundits will most influence party activists"). I predict a list that is equally bleak.
Sir,
While I don't consider myself much of an editor, would it not be appropriate to surround the word "thinkers" with quotation marks?
rewt66, I was thinking much the same. An assembly of Olbermans and Maddows would not be much more inspiring. But at least John Stewart would probably make the list.
Populus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur.
'The people want to be decieved, so let them be deceived.'

An angry tweet from don't-forget-about-me Sarah Palin to follow in 3...2..
One thing I don't need to know is which pundits party activists (from either party) are influenced by. If they were influenced by anyone with a whit of sense, it would be right out of party activism.
Burke would despise and ignore them all. Except maybe Will on an unusually sane day.
Poor Ann Coulter - dethroned by Sarah Palin as Queen Conservative Babe.
hahaha
I don't want to be disagreeable, but I've never heard of "conhomeusa.typepad.com"
Who are they and wherever did Lexington find their blog?
I seem to remember Lexington saying, several years ago, that the Republican Party was the party of ideas. At least 5 of the list were "men of ideas" at the time.
Given that this was on 'ConservativeHome.com' you likely have a pretty strong self-selection bias and it is probably impossible to get any kind of demographic data on the population who answered this summer. Take it with a grain of salt.
None of the major GOP pollsters, rainmakers, or truly effective activists like Grover Norquist who actually influence the party activists that matter aren't on this list. Just a list largely of barking dogs.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Fillet of a glenny beck,
In the caldron boil and bek;
Eye of newt, and toe of bill,
Wool of mike, and tongue of will,
Limbaugh's fork, and coulter's sting,
Malkin's leg, and hannity's wing,
(An extra measure, add hammer's thing), -
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
