Our Mission

Modern graduate schools have grown out of two nineteenth-century developments:  the emergence of German research universities, which prized advanced knowledge, and the development of American land-grant universities, which sought serviceable knowledge.  Graduate schools constitute the community where the most lively and rigorous minds of several generations work on the central problems of the time and of the disciplines.

GRADUATE SCHOOL OFFICES MOVE TO THE CAR BARN »
The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences has moved and consolidated all of its offices and functions from ICC to the Car Barn, effective February 1, 2011. Student Services and Academic Affairs are located in Car Barn, Suite 207. Graduate Admissions is located in Car Barn, Suite 207. The Offices of the Dean are located in Car Barn, Suite 400. Graduate Financial Aid, and Grants Administration are located in Suite 400. All telephone and fax numbers remain the same. The Car Barn is located on Prospect Street, N.W. between 35th and 36th Streets (adjacent to the Walsh Bldg, The Tombs Restaurant, and Weismueller's Deli).

GEORGETOWN ALUM WINS HISTORY DISSERTATION AWARD »
Congratulations are in order for Megan Brandow-Faller, Ph.D., a recent Ph.D. student in History (GRAD 2010) on winning the Parker-Schmitt Award for best doctoral dissertation in European History awarded by the Southern Historical Association.

The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences welcomes its incoming graduate students with a brief program of information about the Graduate School, its policies, staff services, and an information fair with representatives of campus offices, services, and organizations of interest to Graduate students.

GRADUATE LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIPS »
Effective Fall 2010 the Graduate School will provide tuition scholarships to graduate students in Main Campus programs who need to develop language skills for their research or to meet proficiency requirements.
