Facebook Buys Israeli Mobile Startup Snaptu

Facebook has purchased Snaptu, a mobile startup that develops software for “feature phones”–the non-smartphones that most of the world uses. The two companies had already collaborated on a “Facebook for Feature Phones” app in January. The Israeli company announced the deal on its blog, and says the acquisition is supposed to close in a few weeks.

    Facebook medium term mobile strategy unfolding with this acquisition. Has Facebook made a de-facto endorsement for base mobile functionality as a method to the masses…. via sms? Twitter already has..why not?
