To help you understand Radio 4 broadcasts, we have drawn up a version of the UK map which shows the geographical areas which the new BBC Weather bulletins follow. The technology used in broadcasting weather forecasts has come a long way since George Cowling's hand-drawn charts. The BBC Weather website is fed by a central database. It pulls in feeds and publishes updates to the site in minutes. BBC Weather looks at the process of taking a weather forecast from computer model output to the broadcast you see on television. BBC Weather has been producing radio forecasts since 1922. Find out how radio forecasts are produced today. Weather graphics have changed significantly over the years, from hand drawn charts to the launch of 3D graphics.
