Target Recalls More Than 50,000 Pair of Infant Girl Sandals

Monday June 27, 2011

Baby Shoes Recall

In a huge recall, Target has announced - in conjunction with the CPSC - that 51,700 pair of infant girl sandals are being recalled because of a potential choking hazard.

The sandals, pictured above, are white and have decorative, plastic flowers that consumers have reported to be falling apart and coming off the sandals. While no babies have been injured, there have been 8 complaints.

If you own a pair of these sandals, you need to stop removing them from your baby's wardrobe immediately and return them to Target for a full refund.

Visit the CPSC website for more information on this baby clothes recall.

Nearly 24,000 Baby Dresses from Emma's Garden Recalled by CPSC and Health Canada

Thursday June 16, 2011

EmmasGardenBabyDress

A new baby clothes recall was announced today by the CPSC and Health Canada, in conjunction with TJX Companies and involves nearly 24,000 baby dresses sold under the brand "Emma's Garden."

These polka-dot dresses have three buttons on the front which can detach and cause a baby to choke. While no injuries have been reported, the recall is a proactive one on the parts of all organizations involved.

Two colors are involved in this recall - pink (sold at TJ Maxx) and black - sold at Marshalls between February and May of this year; these dresses were also sold in Canada at Winners between March and April.

If you own one of these dresses, please stop using it immediately. You can return the dress to the place of purchase for a full refund of the purchase price.

For more information, you can view the recall on the CPSC website.

Are Newborn Baby Clothes Entirely Unnecessary?

Thursday June 9, 2011

Sleeping BabyWhile I was perusing LilSugar recently, I browsed the "Readers' 10 'Nonessential' Baby Items." I was actually shocked that newborn baby clothes made the list.

Not shocked in terms of many parents finding newborn sizes to be unnecessary (for the most part) but more shocked that LilSugar included them. Why? Only because of baby sleepwear.

I hate to get hung up on this - especially since in large part I agree with what the parents are saying......that when a baby grows so darn fast, it's hard to justify buying newborn sizes - especially since they only wear them for just a month or so. The rational being that if you just buy a size up, you're all set.

If you've been with me for any length of time, you know I'm a huge advocate of buying the next size up - except when it comes to sleepwear. Sleepwear should always be purchased in the size your baby is currently wearing - never a size up. Baggy sleepwear can increase the risk of SIDS and so it's never safe.

You can read the LilSugar article here. Learn more about buying safe baby sleepwear and leave your own tips about unnecessary baby clothes for other parents.

Why I Will Never Be Without Tide Stain Release

Monday June 6, 2011

Baby LaundryRecently I have become a major coupon fanatic. I blame it on those crazy ladies from the TLC show Extreme Couponing and our fabulous Guide to Coupons/Bargains.

However, unlike the ladies on the show, I do not have a massive stockpile. But I do use my coupons to get great deals on both stuff I use every day, as well as stuff that I'd like to try but always find to expensive to put in the cart - I mean, what if I don't like it?

So, it was this newfound obsession of mine that led me to try Tide Stain Release. Many of you know that I sing the praises of OxiClean Baby. When our daughter was first born, I kept a bucket of it next to the washer and it worked like a charm as a stain pre-treater.  It's affordable and a must-have in my stain-fighting arsenal.

But I found it's not great for stains that have been sitting around for awhile. You know, like that bodysuit covered in blueberries that got lost behind the changing table.

Given my great coupons plus a gift card offer from Target, I found the opportunity to try Tide Stain Release for virtually free. And I have to say, I'm smitten. Not only did the Stain Release make some fo the dingy baby play clothes look cleaner, it got out stains that have been repeatedly washed and dried - no joke. And I threw everything in the laundry - baby clothes with berry stains, mud from playing outside.....even a baby t-shirt with an old pesto stain on it!

I absolutely consider this to be a laundry item that parents of babies (or even older kids or messy husbands) shouldn't live without. Compare prices on Tide Stain Release and try some out for yourself!
