Mother's Day

Mother's Day

Mother's day is a wonderful time to take a moment and honor motherhood and the divine nature of women. All women, whether or not they bear children, can fulfill the role of mothers and should be remembered as we celebrate Mother's Day.

When Was Jesus Christ Resurrected?

Thursday April 28, 2011
Since Easter Sunday I've continued to study about the resurrection of Jesus Christ in my personal scripture study. As I've studied the last week of the Savior's life, including the Atonement, His Death, and Resurrection, I've been a bit confused about the timing of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Jesus taught that He would be resurrected three days after His death, which occurred on the following Sunday after His death, but I was having trouble understanding how three full days fit in between His death and resurrection (which we celebrate on Easter Sunday).

During my study I found the following quote by Elder James E. Talmage, apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and noted scholar on the life and ministry of Jesus, which clearly answered my question:
"This specification of the third day must not be understood as meaning after three full days. The Jews began their counting of the daily hours with sunset; therefore the hour before sunset and the hour following belonged to different days. Jesus died and was interred during Friday afternoon. His body lay in the tomb, dead, during part of Friday (first day), throughout Saturday, or as we divide the days, from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, (second day), and part of Sunday (third day). We know not at what hour between Saturday sunset and Sunday dawn He rose."1
Studying about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ has been a wonderful joy as I've continued to learn about the gospel of Christ including this clarification of when Jesus Christ was resurrected.

150 Million Copies of The Book of Mormon

Monday April 25, 2011
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints posted an excellent article in the Church News and Events section on how the Book of Mormon has reached 150 million copies.

The first edition of The Book of Mormon was made available on March 26, 1830, with the printing of 5,000 copies. 181 years later in March of 2011 the Church distributed the 150 millionth copy of The Book of Mormon.

The Church news article gives some amazing facts, information about its translation into foreign languages, and additional history of The Book of Mormon, including this marvelous quote by President Gordon B. Hinckley:
"Through all of these years critics have tried to explain it. They have spoken against it. They have ridiculed it. But it has outlived them all, and its influence today is greater than at any time in its history." -- President Gordon B. Hinckley (1910-2008), 15th President of the Church
I love The Book of Mormon and know it is true. I have read it, studied it, pondered it, prayed about it, and received my own personal witness from the Spirit that it is another testament of Jesus Christ.
