Saturday April 30, 2011

Is it me or has there been a shortage of interesting rap albums the last couple months? So far, 2011 has produced better mixtapes than albums. Things are finally looking up, though. This month alone features hotly anticipated albums by Beastie Boys, Kool G. Rap, and Tyler, The Creator. Here's the lowdown on May's Top 10 New Rap Albums.

Weekly Rap Chart: Wiz Khalifa Takes a Dive

Wednesday April 27, 2011

This week's SoundScan numbers are in. For the first time in a long while, there's no single rap title in the Top 10. This week's Billboard 200 throne belongs to a 22-year old Adele, whose 21 moved an impressive 153,000 units this week. The top rap mover of the week is Wiz Khalifa. Rolling Papers scanned a respectable 33,000 units, bringing Khalifa's year-to-date numbers to 328,116. It dropped from No. 9 to No. 12 this week. At this rate, it's only a matter of time before both Rolling Papers and Lasers are certified gold. Atlantic won.

Here are the 10 best selling rap albums of the week:

  • 12. Wiz Khalifa - Rolling Papers - 33,846 (328,116)
  • 35. Eminem - Recovery - 16,512 (3,819, 183)
  • 44. Lupe Fiasco - Lasers - 12,889 (346,879)
  • 36 Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday - 16,069 (1,329,277)
  • 55. DJ Quik - Book of David - 9,731

  • 83. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - 7,086 (1,127,877)
  • 78. Cam'ron - Cam'ron Presents The U.N: Gunz - 7,494
  • 90. Atmosphere - Family Sign - 6,828 (34,531)

Flavor Flav Dumps Fried Chicken

Monday April 25, 2011

Remember that fried chicken restaurant Flavor Flav launched back in January? No? Well, that's good, because Flav is ready for that joint to be memory, stat. Flav has decided to part ways with the Iowa-based Flavor Flav's Fried Chicken.

"I had a licensing agreement with Nick Cimino and that's all we had. It was his business to run from there and the business was not run right." Flav revealed to TMZ. "Let me be straight up with you, I went up inside there on April 2 and I found potato salad that expired on February 28. And it's then when I realized I can't do business with this man and I really hope no one ate those potatoes."

Man, I sure as hell hope none of you ate ANYTHING from that restaurant.

He's closing shop after a mere four months? Well, that shouldn't surprise anyone. Commitment is not exactly Flavor Flav's forte. After three seasons and 12,000 women on Flavor of Love, the man chose not to date or marry any of the women.

Nicki Minaj Announces Pink Friday Follow-up

Monday April 25, 2011

The Pink Friday promo vehicle is still rolling, but Nicki Minaj is ready to set another record in motion. The Young Money First lady announced plans for a follow-up while performing at Lil Wayne's I Am Music II tour.

"You'll get another album within 12 months," Nicki said during an interview with KIIS FM. "I always write stuff down as they come. You'll get the announcement for the next album in September. That's all."

Minaj also promised to drop her new hit "Super Bass" sometime this week.

"I put my Barbs on detention yesterday because they were yelling at me and threatening to beat me up and kill me over the "Super Bass" video," Nicki added. "Last night I approved the final 'Super Bass' edit. So now it's out of my control and I'm hoping you'll get it before the week is out. But if not, you'll get it at the top of next week."

So, there you have it. Barbs.
