Italy is now experiencing more spring-like conditions after coping better than its other European neighbours. Some resorts have received fresh snow this week though so the conditions, especially on the higher slopes, are still very good.

Sauze d'Oulx (80/160cm) received a dusting of snow on Wednesday 30th March which helped to freshen up the slopes a little. As expected, there are some spring-like and heavier conditions on the lower slopes but these don't soften up until later in the day. Cervinia (55/190cm) also saw some fresh snow. 5cm fell here on Wednesday too and although the visibility wasn't great first thing, the sun managed to break through and provided some great skiing on fresh pistes. Macugnaga (10/220cm) still has a good snow base but in order to preserve the snow, the resort will now only be open at the weekend until it closes for the season for good.

Snow is forecast at almost all of our featured resorts this week with the higher resorts and those to the east receiving the most. Up to 25cm could land at Val Senales (30/270cm) with the snowiest days being Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th April. The remainder of the week is expected to be bright and mild with more snow arriving towards the end of next week.

Europe Weather Outlook

A predominantly bright week is forecast across Europe with some periods of snow and rain expected at the beginning of next week. The mild temperatures will continue with the freezing level rising to above 3000m on occasion. Overnight temperatures will drop to around -7C mid-week which will help the snow conditions and will allow the pisteurs to maintain the slopes well.

Italy is expected to receive the most snow this week with around 25cm expected at the glacier resorts. The snowfall will be concentrated to such higher areas as well as the resorts in the far east of the country. It is unlikely that elsewhere will receive any more than a few centimetres.

It's a similar story in Austria where a similar amount of snow is expected at the highest resorts with the lower resorts only likely to receive a light dusting. The mild weather will continue here and there could also be some periods of rain.

Switzerland and France will have a mainly sunny week with very little snowfall expected to fall. Overnight temperatures will help though and will keep the slopes in good condition, particularly in the morning when they are firm.
