Job Title:               Executive Producer Doha

Reports to:            Head of Output/Bureau Chief

Job Summary         

The Executive Producer is the most senior figure in the on-day newsteam. They make the most crucial daily editorial decisions. They exercise strong editorial judgment, and rule on issues of taste and decency, and have final say in the newsroom on what is broadcast. It is a key leadership position. , affecting coverage and content around the world.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.      to have overall responsibility for content of rolling 24-hour news

2.      to make decisions on taste and decency of content.

3.      to make decision on legality of content, in association with legal adviser

4.      to issue editorial direction to entire newsteam – in the office and the field

5.      to check scripts for factual accuracy, editorial content and legality

6.      to liaise with correspondents in the field and in the office over content of their reports.

7.      to view edited reports, check they comply with Al Jazeera guidelines and assume final responsibility for clearing them for broadcast

8.      to communicate decisions to all other newscentres

9.      to ensure Al Jazeera English coverage and content is consistent with Al Jazeera Network goals and international law

10.  to ensure close communication and exchange of material with Al Jazeera Arabic

11.  to originate and develop ideas for items, strands and programmes

12.  to ensure effective use of programme budgets and resources

13.  may be asked to deputise for senior staff   

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

1.      Substantial practical experience of leading news teams – likely to be several years at national network level or above.

2.      First class news judgment and comprehensive understanding of global news events

3.      Authority and excellent team leadership skills

4.      Perfect English.

5.      Communication and motivation skills

6.      Ability to resolve conflict

7.      Ability to cope with stress and continue to perform under high pressure

8.      Thorough knowledge of broadcast law and regulations affecting Al Jazeera content

9.      Thorough knowledge of TV production techniques and technology

10.  Ability to multi-task

11.  Possession of a recognized journalistic qualification
