In what they consider a reaffirmation of the values of the Egyptian revolution, the youth organizers of today's million person march in Tahrir square plan on combining the chanting of Coptic Orthodox liturgy with the usual conduct of Muslim Friday prayers on the square.

The 18-day Egyptian revolution had emphasized Muslim-Christian unity, demanding a civil state and affirming religious tolerance. Since the fall of Mubarak on 11 February, however, there have been several incidences of anti-Coptic incitement and attacks, mostly involving the Salafist movement acting, according to some, in collusion with the counter-revolutionary forces of Mubarak's National Democratic Party and the State Security Intelligence service.
