Twinings

We originally worked on the Twinings.co.uk site with AMV BBDO. Following a successful launch of the marketing site we were commissioned to build the ecommerce site at Twinings.co.uk/shop/. Built using the Magento ecommerce system, the site provides a highly customised hand-drawn interface. The site allows for users to register in a number of different ways through the same interface, allows for international orders and even free tea! It really has to be seen in all it’s finery -so get over there, you can even get hold of some free tea if you’re lucky.

One of the biggest challenges of the Twinings job has been coping with its huge spikes in traffic. As with many a site, they are likely to experience a spike in traffic following TV ad or marketing campaign. However, when that campaign offers free tea it seems to generate a huge interest! As such we host the Twinings site on a fully elastic cloud platform. The site uses as many servers as it needs to to stay responsive, when it doesn’t need them, it doesn’t use them, and we don’t charge for them. It’s simple and cost effective.
