The producers of “Good Morning America” are replacing Juju Chang, the news anchor on the morning show, with Josh Elliott, a co-anchor of ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
Ms. Chang will be a “special correspondent” and fill-in anchor on ABC’s “Nightline,” the ABC News President Ben Sherwood announced in an internal memorandum Tuesday evening.
He followed up on Wednesday morning with the announcement of Mr. Elliott’s move. ABC and ESPN are both owned by The Walt Disney Company.
Mr. Elliott is currently on “SportsCenter” from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern. He has worked at ESPN since 2004. The blog TVNewser reported that Mr. Elliott, who had become more prominent at ESPN in recent years, had been “eyeing a role at ABC News for some time.”
There have been a series of changes lately at “Good Morning America,” or “GMA” for short, the No. 2 morning show behind NBC’s “Today” show.
In February, James Goldston, the top producer of “Nightline,” was put in charge of “GMA;” also that month, the former NBC anchor Dan Abrams was named a legal analyst on the show; and two weeks ago, Lara Spencer was named the lifestyle anchor.
Mr. Sherwood said Ms. Chang “will play a leading part in a number of the 13 prime-time hours that ‘Nightline’ will produce this summer.” He said she would also continue to contribute to “GMA” as well as the news division’s other programs, “20/20″ and “World News.”
