Google News presents many articles for you to follow the news. When you click on a news article you want to read, your browser will open the article in a new tab.
This is a setting you can change by clicking the gear icon at the top of the page and opening News settings. Under Navigation, click on the checkbox labeled Open articles in a new browser window to turn this feature on or off.
