Laura N. Gasaway and Tarja Koskinen-Olsson Join Copyright Clearance Center Board of Directors

Well Respected Industry Veterans to Provide CCC with Expert Perspective

DANVERS, MA., February 2, 2010—Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), a not-for-profit organization that is the world's leading provider of copyright licensing solutions, has announced the election of Laura N. Gasaway and Tarja Koskinen-Olsson to its Board of Directors.

Gasaway is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina School of Law, previously serving 22 years as Director of the Law Library at UNC. She co-chaired the Intellectual Property Task Force for UNC that produced its system-wide copyright policy as well as the Chapel Hill campus policy. Gasaway teaches courses in Copyright Law and Cyberspace Law in the Law School and Copyright Law for Librarians in the School of Information and Library Science. Additionally, she is past president of the American Association of Law Libraries, a Fellow of the Special Libraries Association and has served on and chaired various committees of both associations, including their Copyright Committees. From 1987-95, Gasaway served on the American Bar Association's Accreditation Committee and from 1997-2002 the Council on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. Additionally, she wrote the Copyright Corner column for SLA's Information Outlook for more than six years and currently writes a copyright column for Against the Grain.

Koskinen-Olsson works as an international advisor on intellectual property issues, with rights management as a special focus. She served as President of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFRRO) from 1993 to 1999 and then as Honorary President from 2001 to 2009. In 2006, Koskinen-Olsson was elected a Member of the High Level Expert Group on Digital Libraries, a flagship initiative of the European Commission. From 1987-2003, as CEO of KOPIOSTO (the Joint Finnish Copyright Organization), she was responsible for managing the collective licensing of reprography and digital uses of literary and visual works and secondary uses of audiovisual works in Finland. Today, she lectures extensively at various training programs organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and local organizers, such as the Patent and Registration Office in Sweden, the Norwegian Copyright Development Association (NORCODE), the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and the Organisation Africaine de la Propriete Intellectuelle (OAPI).
