The latest comer to Egypt's forthcoming presidential elections is a previously unknown US-educated civil engineer named Yasser Qoura. A graduate of Colorado State University, the 43-year old Qoura has announced his candidacy for the Egyptian presidency, declaring his intention of “rehabilitating Egyptian society economically”, if elected. Qoura also said that he would appoint 4 vice-presidents, a Copt, an Islamist, a liberal and a military man. He would set up an advisory presidential council, see to the enactment of a unified law for houses of worship, fight corruption and establish new ministerial portfolios for Sinai and African affairs.

On his Facebook wall he has allowed many critical responses to his candidacy. One of those bluntly told Qoura he was not suitable for the job: “I don't believe you are able to lead Egypt with all its problems, especially as you have no known patriotic or political history. Egypt needs an experienced person able to deal with the many political, economic and security and educational problems that have accumulated over the past 30 years.”
