In a package of articles called The Guantánamo Files, a team of my colleagues reports today on the release of more than 700 classified military documents that provide new and detailed accounts of the men who have done time at the Guantánamo Bay prison in Cuba, and offer new insight into the evidence against the 172 men still locked up there. The Guantánamo files were part of a huge trove of documents leaked last year to the anti-secrecy organization WikiLeaks. They were made available to The New York Times by another source on the condition of anonymity. National Public Radio and the British newspaper The Guardian are also producing reports based on the documents. Read more about the background in this Note to Readers.
