Pro ana, an online movement encouraging self starvation, is increasingly being recognized as a problem, yet few seem to recognize the inevitability that pro ana or something like it was bound to happen sooner or later. Although not strictly an addiction, the eating disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, bears some striking similarities to addiction. Many who are involved in the pro ana movement describe themselves as "addicted to being thin" -- and a treatment model often used in treating anorexia is most well known for its application to addictive behaviors -- the Stages of Change model.
