Vick Weighs in on Bin Laden Killing

Thursday May 5, 2011

At a time when much of the nation is taken aback by the highly-publicized and controversial comments from Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall regarding the killing of terrorist Osama bin Laden, another high-profile football player has decided to weigh in on the issue as well. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick had the following to say on 1490 AM The Game in Virginia Beach earlier this week:

"It was about time. What he so-called did to our people, took so many innocent lives. Hey, he deserved every bit of it."

Bin Laden, when you think about it, is probably lucky Navy Seals got to him instead of Vick, who might have hung him, drowned him, slammed him to the ground, then electrocuted him instead of just shooting him in the head.

Is Football Right for Your Kid?

Wednesday May 4, 2011

As parents, many of us struggle with the decision to let our kids play football. After all, it is a very physical sport, and none of us wants to see Junior get hurt.

Besides the potential for injury, though, there are other things to consider before committing your child to a season on the gridiron.

Here at About Football we go over all the points you should consider when deciding if football is right for your kid.

Browns Big Winners In this Year's Draft

Sunday May 1, 2011

Cleveland Browns I realize it's pointless to start assigning grades to teams for this year's NFL Draft selections, so I'm not even going to attempt it. But I will say there was one big winner over the weekend.

The Cleveland Browns.

Regardless of how their draft selections pan out, it appears at this time they made out like bandits by hauling in a wheelbarrow full of extra picks from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for the right to draft Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones. Granted Jones has the potential and the measurables to develop into a dynamic weapon at the NFL level, especially with veteran Roddy White on the opposite side of the field drawing away coverage. And apparently the Falcons feel he is the type of player who will help push them over the top.

But is he really worth the price they paid?

In all, the Falcons gave up two first-round picks, a second-round pick, and two fourths. In my view, there are very few proven receivers in the NFL worth that price, and it's certainly a huge gamble on Atlanta's part to offer up such a huge bounty for an unproven product.

For a team like the Browns, though, who have plenty of holes to fill, it's a great move to not only acquire an extra handful of picks. It also takes them out of a situation -- the No. 6 pick overall -- that would have required them to risk a dump truck full of cash on an unproven player.
