New Members Include Bloomberg LP, Forbes, Harper Collins, Hearst Business Media, Indiana University Press, The Gallup Organization and McKinsey & Company

DANVERS, Mass., December 15, 2010—Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), a not-for-profit organization and leading provider of licensing solutions, announced new participants in its Annual Copyright License for Academic Institutions, including Bloomberg LP, Forbes, Harper Collins, Hearst Business Media, Indiana University Press, The Gallup Organization and McKinsey & Company, among others.

The License allows librarians, researchers, faculty and staff to collaborate freely while respecting the intellectual property of others. It's available to public and private institutions within the U.S., as well as these institutions' international campuses. Some of the uses covered under the license include: using copyrighted content in print and electronic coursepacks, classroom handouts, e-reserve and course management systems, internal e-mail, intranet postings, distance learning and research collaboration.

"Over 1200 institutions of higher education obtain copyright permissions from CCC each year," said Diane Pierson, Vice President, Marketing, Copyright Clearance Center. "The addition of these rights will substantially increase the value of their licenses."

The License was launched in 2007 after nearly 3 years of research and development with input from over 50 institutions and dozens of rightsholders. The License, which provides print and electronic reuse rights for millions of titles (books, journals, newspapers, magazines, blogs and other content) has been adopted by over 100 campuses of all types and sizes and has over 850 publishers and 100 authors participating, including Elsevier, John Wiley & Sons, Princeton University Press, Dow Jones, the American Medical Association, etc. On average, through its outreach to publishers and authors, CCC adds approximately 25,000 new titles per month.
