  • Language Education and Development, Center for

    The Center for Language Education and Development (CLED) is a unit in Georgetown College dedicated to enhancing the College's cross-cultural understanding as it delivers programs to international students, teacher, and scholars. CLED is composed of two divisions – English as a Foreign Language and Special Programs. The former offers high-quality intensive English instruction to learners interested in pursuing academic study in the United States as well as instruction for those interested in improving their English skills for professional purposes. The Special Programs division designs teacher training programs and workshops as well as language programs for clients, which range from academic institutions throughout the world to international organizations in the United States and abroad.

  • Languages and Linguistics, Faculty of

    The Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL) consists of seven modern foreign language departments as well as the Department of Classics and the Department of Linguistics. The FLL’s curricular offerings are designed to educate students to reach a high level of cultural and linguistic understanding. FLL departments offer majors in Arabic, Chinese, Classics, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Linguistics and collectively in Comparative Literature. In addition, the FLL offers coursework in Catalan, Modern Greek, Hebrew, Korean, Ukrainian and Turkish.

  • Latin American Studies, Center for

    The Center for Latin American Studies regularly welcomes visiting scholars from the United States and Latin America and sponsors many projects and programs. These include the Mexico Project, which focuses on bilateral issues such as governance and trade between Mexico and the United States; the Political Database of the Americas (in collaboration with the Organization of American States), which presents a comprehensive collection of documentary and statistical information on the hemisphere; and the Brazilian Studies Program, which augments the center's academic offerings on Brazil and hosts events relevant to Brazil and the Portuguese-speaking world.

  • Law Center

    The Law Center educates an exceptionally talented and diverse student body for legal practice and the pursuit of justice at the local, national and global level.   • Law Students in Court Program

    The Law Students In Court program (LSIC) is one of the oldest and most well-regarded clinical programs in the city. It is a unique consortium of five law schools whose students provide quality legal representation, assistance and counseling to low-income clients in the District of Columbia. Georgetown students participate in LSIC's civil division, representing clients in civil matters in D.C. Superior Court and local administrative agencies.

  • Law, Science and Global Security, Institute for

    The Institute for Law, Science and was established promotes teaching and research at the nexus of international law and international relations. Recent developments such as intervention in Iraq, Kosovo's declaration of independence or the treatment of detainees in the "War on Terror" are difficult to assess in the absence of an understanding of legal rules and an appreciation of the ways in which these rules may affect behavior. The institute hosts a number of events each year that bring students together with practitioners, policymakers and legal scholars in a variety of formats.

  • Leadership Seminar, Georgetown

    The Georgetown Leadership Seminar promotes a dialogue among emerging world leaders that is designed to create cross-disciplinary cooperation in international affairs. Participants in the seminar are exposed to major issues in the foreign policymaking process through direct contact with top-level American policymakers. The seminar also establishes and cultivates an ongoing network crucial to strengthening international cooperation and areas of agreement among leaders in the global community.

  • Leisure and Recreation Education Program

    The Department of Leisure and Recreation Education offers non-credit instruction in activities for a lifetime of good health. The current offerings include ballet, modern dance, jazz dance, ballroom dance, swimming, tennis, squash, racquetball, golf, weight training, yoga, sea kayaking and rock climbing. All classes are offered for the first 10 weeks of each semester.

  • Liberal Studies Program

    Through the Liberal Studies Program, student can earn a bachelor's, master's or doctor of liberal studies degree. Students select courses in the humanities, international affairs or social and public policy for an interdisciplinary study of critical issues and values through reading, reflection, writing and discussion.

    The Department of Linguistics is committed to analyzing a diversity of linguistic phenomena through different modes of inquiry. Our view of language as a cultural, social and psychological phenomenon leads us to examine the dialectic between what is universal and what is particular and unique across languages. Our course curriculum, departmental areas of research and individual research interests allow the department to incorporate a wide range of modes of inquiry.

    The Georgetown Center for Liturgy, founded in 1981 by Georgetown and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, is an education, research and consultation center dedicated to transforming American Catholic parishes through the liturgical renewal initiated by the Second Vatican Council.

  • Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center

    The Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the Medical Center and Georgetown University Hospital, seeks to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer through innovative basic and clinical research, patient care, community education and outreach and the training of future cancer specialists. Lombardi is one of only 40 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, as designated by the National Cancer Institute, and the only such center in the Washington, D.C., area.

    Research in the Lung Biology Laboratory is centered on understanding the regulation of lung gene expression during normal development, impaired lung growth and lung repair and regeneration.
