Several recognized Egyptian and Kuwaiti figures announced yesterday the establishment of the “Kuwaiti Egyptian Loyalty Committee”; a group aiming at supporting the Egyptian economy.

The committee -- formed by 26 prominent Egyptian and Kuwaiti bankers, lawyers and journalists -- is said to direct its effort towards the implementation of vital projects related to food and medicine industries.

A bank account was opened in the Kuwaiti national bank to raise funds for the committee, which is formed under the umbrella of the Kuwaiti Red Crescent.

The committee, initially formed by popular efforts, has received official support from the Egyptian prime minister, Essam Sharaf, as well as the Kuwaiti ministry of social affairs.

Sharaf recently visited Kuwait, among other Gulf States, to urge support for Egypt post Jan 25th. Similarly, Samir Radwan, minister of finance, has called on Kuwaiti investors to inject more investments into Egypt in the upcoming period.

The president of the committee, MP Ali El Rashed, stated that this initiative is an honest gesture to repay Egypt for its historical role in supporting the nation.

Egyptian armed forces had a leading role in the war of liberating Kuwait in early 1990’s, an incident often mentioned with gratitude among Kuwaiti circles.
