The list is expanding of regime officials implicated in former Tourism Minister Zohair Garana’s corruption case, in which the minister and other regime officials are accused of illegally issuing licenses for tourism projects.
Investigations have implicated a full host of top officials of the deposed regime in the case, foremost amongst whom is ex-President Hosni Mubarak's son and heir apparent, Gamal, and the former speaker of parliament and ruling party whip, Fathi Sorour, both currently held in detention in Tora Prison outside Cairo. Other regime cronies implicated in the case include former Al-Ahram board chairman, Morsi Attallah, as well as businessmen and government officials Mohamed El-Sweidy, Ashraf El-Baroudy, Ahmed Abu-Taleb, Ahmed Hamed, Farouk El-Beblawy, Faiza Kamel El-Banna, Omar Taher and Mohamed Heidar El-Boghdady. All are accused of culpability in illegal deals allocating tourism projects to certain businesses at the expense of others.
The Court hearing the case has ordered further investigations, and accordingly has postponed hearings to May 2.
