May Events in Boston

Wednesday April 27, 2011

The weather is finally changing, with temperatures predicted to be in the 60's and 70's all week, a sure signal that we're in the heart of spring with summer soon to follow.

As May approaches, and with tourist season right around the corner, some Boston summer traditions will begin to open for the season as well, including the SoWa Open Market, the Boston Pops, and local farmer markets.

From Mother's Day to American Craft Beer Week to Bay State Bike Week, here's a roundup of May event highlights.

Is This Claude Julien's Last Night as Bruins Head Coach?

Wednesday April 27, 2011

So, here we are again.

The Boston Bruins face the Montreal Canadiens tonight in Game 7 of their playoff series, with jobs on the line. Should the Bruins fall to the Canadiens, Claude Julien will most likely be fired and general manager Peter Chiarelli's job is no certainty either. The fact is, the Bruins have not even won a Game 7 since 1994 - 17 years - and have dropped them three straight playoff seasons, in 2008 against these same Canadiens, in 2009 to the Carolina Hurricanes, and last year in the epic, 3-0 collapse at the hands of the Flyers, who would just happen to be their next opponent should they win tonight. If they win, should fans have any confidence they can make it past the second round? Maybe sooner is better. It's certainly better for the stress levels.

Julien and Chiarelli should be given utmost credit for bringing this franchise back from the depths it was in just a few years ago (Remember 10 straight seasons without a playoff series win?), but two straight seasons of not being able to get out of the second round, last May's disaster, and this year's possibility of coming up short should signal to team ownership that enough is enough.
