NBC has unveiled its fall schedule, which includes some new dramas, comedies, and reality shows as well as several returning series'. Absent from the lineup, however, is
Minute to Win It.
The full press release including the schedule and list of new shows can be found at
The Futon Critic. The list of returning "alternative" series', which includes reality and game shows, is limited to
The Biggest Loser,
The Sing-Off,
The Celebrity Apprentice, and
The Voice. (It's also interesting to note that the NBC execs addressed the possibility of Donald Trump running for President, in which case he will be replaced on
Celebrity Apprentice. I can't imagine how that would work, but then again I can't imagine Trump will actually run for President.)
Back on topic, the removal of
Minute to Win It from the schedule is both surprising and, well, not surprising. The show pulls in decent numbers for NBC (depending on where they place it in their schedule grid), and people seem to really be enjoying the games themselves. But as
we've seen before, the big networks like to take a successful show and suck the life out of it, airing it so often that viewers lose interest.
I want to point out that
Minute to Win It has not officially been cancelled, so there's always the possibility of it returning at some point. Still, the show isn't even listed in the mid-season replacement section of NBC's announcement, so I wouldn't be getting any hopes up at this point.

Regis Philbin admitted on
Live with Regis and Kelly this week that he'd been approached to appear on
Dancing With the Stars. He expressed concern over the physical toll the show would take on him, and of course joked with Kelly Ripa about having to wear spandex. If you missed the banter, the clip can be found on
YouTube.
While it would be a lot of fun to see Reege on
DWTS, I have a feeling he'll end up taking a pass on the show. Of course, that leads me to think about other game show hosts who might be enjoyable on the reality show.
As much as I'd love to see
Alex Trebek vying for the Mirror Ball trophy, I think we can all agree that this will never happen. Drew Carey would be funny, but I can't see him taking the show seriously at all.
Wayne Brady is almost a no-brainer but his schedule would likely prevent him from competing.
I think the best choice for a
Dancing With the Stars contestant from the world of game shows would be
Pat Sajak. He's a good sport, he'd likely do very well, and he's got a great sense of humor. Think of it: banter with host Tom Bergeron, quips with
DWTS judge Bruno Tonioli - I can't see a downside. Heck,
Dancing should work on the double-whammy of inviting Sajak and
Vanna White to be on the show! We already know Vanna looks great in glitter and sequins.
So Pat and Vanna, what do you say?

Jeopardy! is always coming up with new and different categories, and tonight we'll be able to catch their latest offering, "Celebrity High School Photos." This week is the final week of the first ever
Teachers Tournament, which has been a great competition so far.
Normally I don't make mention of every new
Jeopardy! category, but this one demanded my attention. Why? Because along with the announcement came this awesome photo of host
Alex Trebek from his high school days - he graduated in 1957. I know the accompanying photo is tiny, so there's also a larger version of
Alex Trebek's high school photo for you to have a look at.

The nominees for the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced, and the two Game Show categories contain the usual suspects - with a few surprises thrown in. Here are this years' nominees:
Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show
Outstanding Game Show Host
- Ben Bailey, host of Cash Cab
- Todd Newton, host of Family Game Night
- Wayne Brady, host of Let's Make a Deal
- Meredith Vieira, host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
Last year, the Daytime Emmys
gave Millionaire the cold shoulder. It's a bit of a surprise this year to see Alex Trebek and Pat Sajak left out of the Host category. I thought maybe this would be the year we'd see Drew Carey make the list as well.
On the other hand, congratulations to Todd Newton for his nomination.
Family Game Night is a great show, and it's nice to see him included.
The Daytime Emmy Awards will air on June 19th 2011, on CBS. In addition to the above awards, we'll also get to see
Alex Trebek and Pat Sajak honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards. You can see the full list of nominees at
EmmyOnline.org.
Let's hear your thoughts on the nominations, good or bad! Anyone you think should have been nominated, but wasn't?
