Thin slices of gold potatoes are layered into a pie and baked in a bath of milk, heavy cream, garlic, and Parmesan cheese in this savory recipe. It is a nice change from the usual potato side dish and may be made in advance. Red potatoes are easily substituted for gold potatoes, if need be. If you want to jazz it up a bit, add some chopped ham or bacon bits.

A traditionally favorite appetizer, these deviled eggs get a boost of flavor from leftover cooked chicken, capers, and mustard. Deviled eggs are usually simply garnished with a sprinkle of sweet paprika, but I like to gussy mine up with slivers of olives, roasted red peppers, and tomatoes, along with fresh herb sprigs such as chives, baby basil leaves, dill, or parsley. Adorned or plain, these little gems are sure to please everyone at your next party.
