Laundry Stain Removal Saturday: Sassy Springtime Peas

Saturday April 23, 2011

Springtime means baby peas and for some of us, it won't be long until the tender pods are ready to pick from the garden. So, here's a sassy little recipe that you can add to your springtime menu. And, if you drop a bit or splash some ingredients on your apron, just follow the links to remove the stains.

Sassy Springtime Peas

  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onion
  • 4 cups fresh snow peas
  • 1 cup low sodium vegetable broth
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 cups fresh pineapple tidbits
  • 1 cup drained sliced water chestnuts
  • 1 medium tomato, cut into wedges

In a large skillet or wok over medium heat, stir curry powder into oil. Add green onion and snow peas, stirring well. Cook until snow peas begin to wilt slightly. Stir cornstarch into vegetable broth until completely combined. Add mixture to snow peas along with wine vinegar and sugar. Cook, stirring constantly until thickened. Add soy sauce, pineapple, water chestnuts and tomatoes. Stir gently. Cook over medium heat about 5 minutes. Serves 8.

  • The Great Cloth Diaper Change is Tomorrow

    Friday April 22, 2011

Today is Earth Day and a good time to think about greening your laundry and your home. If you have a little one, using cloth diapers is a perfect example of how to reduce the amount of waste that heads to the landfill. And, tomorrow is the perfect day to make the change to cloth diapers because it is the Great Cloth Diaper Change.

The Real Diaper Association is sponsoring the Great Cloth Diaper Change, a world record simultaneous cloth diaper change event on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 9am PDT! Communities around the world are gathering together to participate and to find an event near you visit the official Great Cloth Diaper Change website. Green News from Dropps Just in Time for Earth Day

    Thursday April 21, 2011

Dropps laundry detergent is already a leader in the detergent industry in environmental awareness due to their lack of bulky packaging. Certified by the U.S. EPA Design for the Environment, their detergent packs simply dissolve in the washer and the only thing left is the lightweight outer pouch which until today was not recyclable by local collectors.

But, now that problem is gone because Dropps has partnered with TerraCycle to collect and recycle the plastic bags and make Dropps a zero waste product. Recycling is easy because TerraCycle offers free postage-paid shipping labels on their website and offers donations to charity for each pouch recycled. Learn more about Dropps and TerraCycle and celebrate a clean Earth Day tomorrow! (Photo: MML)
