Does Highway One Make You Queasy?

Monday April 25, 2011
Recently, LIRunner asked a question about Highway One through Big Sur in our forum: "... I am sort of scared of heights and do get motion sickness. I am not driving the car my friend is. Would I be okay taking PCH from SF to Monterey?"

I also suffer from motion sickness and moderate fear of heights and I've traveled on CA Hwy 1 as both passenger and driver more times than I can count, so I told her what I thought. You can read it here. Now I'm wondering what everyone else thinks about it.

If you've been there, don't keep it to yourself. Tell us - What's it like to drive along the Big Sur coast?

California in May

In May, you can watch a Doo-Dah Parade, a bike rice or a jumping frog, celebrate Cinco de Mayo or watch a meteor shower. See what's going on.

Whether or not you're a big fan of Twitter, it's a handy tool for dispensing little bits of information in a hurry. Recently, we reported about road closures in Yosemite and Big Sur, snow in Palm Springs, exclusive travel package deals and a fun video from the 1960s of British architecture critic who fell in love with Los Angeles.

California's Best Hotel Spas

Monday April 18, 2011

We've visited a lot of great California spas over the years - these are the best we've found in a hotel. Selection criteria were simple, but few places made the cut out of hundreds I've visited and reviewed. First, the candidates were restricted to places I've actually visited, so I can comment from first-hand experience. After that, other than being in a hotel, the spas are all memorable and so good that I'd spend my own money to go back. Surprisingly, a lot of places that are on other lists of top spas don't make it past those two simple filters.

The resulting list is an interesting mix from luxe to basic: California's Best Hotel Spas
