Hosni Mubarak to ask for forgiveness

Former ousted president Hosni Mubarak is expected to apologise to the nation soon, according to media reports, and is aiming for amnesty.

According to the Shorouk newspaper, the speech is currently being prepared and will be aired on several Egyptian and Arab channels. Mubarak will apologise for his or his family’s wrongdoing against the Egyptian people, which he is expected to blame on bad advice and misinformation given to him by his consultants.

During the speech Mubarak will also express his willingness to return most of his wealth to Egyptians. He will also stress the fact that he was once a member of the country’s armed forces and fought to protect Egypt during the 1973 war against Israel.

The ousted president will also say that he never expected to ever hold the position of president and did his best to perform his duties, as did his wife, Suzanne Thabet, who did a lot of humanitarian work for the country.

The purpose of the speech would be to ask the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces for amnesty and to not put him on trial.

The speech is expected to be written by the same speech writer who wrote his emotional address to the nation on 1 February where he promised reforms and urged the protesters in Tahrir Square to go home.

Mubarak, who stepped down from power on 11 February, has been detained in the Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital after suffering a heart attack while being questioned on 13 April. His wife is also in the hospital after she suffered from a nervous breakdown on 13 May hours after the Illicit Gains Authority ordered her detention for 15 days on charges of illegal acquisition of wealth.

Thabet has also reportedly already handed over some of her assets to the state.

Forgiveness
30 years of absolute power of a large population how many have died because of poverty lack of education health and jobs, how many were put in jail and tortured for trying to get basic things or protest against unlawful hold of power by MOB-arak. and now he wants forgiveness in a speech of 10 minutes and wants the nation to ignore 30 years of tyranny. he need to be stoned to death over a month of stoning '

Re: Ex-president to get out of a tight spot
Hi Georg B., good work remembering a speech from a couple of months back. Please tell me where I can send you a medal for your achievement. Also, the distance from cairo to sharm is about 650 km. This is just another example of how people love to exaggerate about anything to do with the topic. '

JUSTICE OR REVENGE... clearly you're seaking revenge
To all of you who are seeking retribution. I will not try to convince you otherwise, I will only point out that you and I fundementally disagree. I understand the rage you feel and your need to take revenge... but luckily for me, I also understand that no amount of threats, torture or mob style hatred will result in a better Egypt, with less poor and more educated with bigger priorities than to subject their fellow countrymen to intollerance. if you're waiting for 50 billion dollars to come back and save the day, then I hope you hold your breath till it comes... at least then i won't have to hear any more from you please, please hold your breath :)'

You guys are a pathetic mob, indeed
I agree completely with Ramy, somebody with common sense. It is disgusting to read who many people want to take revenge because they just think about the money. Look at the goods things Mr & Mrs Mubarak did for this country. You forgot about that? Put your energy in things which have to change (unemployment benefit, better education, better healthcare) instead of keep on pointing with your finger because you just think about money, the money you will never benefit from.'

Ex-president to get out of a tight spot
I remember very well his last public speech and his statement, that he served Egypt for more then 60 years. More then 30 years in power with corruption, repression and governmental brutality only under state of emergancy conditions and now he is trying to apologise hypocritical to the nation for amnesty and reputation only. Nobody will believe him, too late Mr. Mubarak. Too much missed and killed human beings and all of them have no chance anymore. By the way, he take 1,6 Million EGP per every hour during 30 years based on 24 hours presidency daily to wallow in money while millions of Egyptians are suffering at same time in shamful poverty. This money amount over 30 years is equivillent to a stacked tower of 100 EGP-notes of about 1050 Kilometer height or a distance Cairo - Sharm El Sheikh - Cairo. He deserves not anymore any happiness and any nice life after all his give away odds. '
