Shout! Factory and Nelvana Enterprises announced yesterday a new deal to bring 39 episodes of The Adventures of Tintin to the U.S. later this year. "The Adventures of Tintin is one of the most endearing animated series of all time and has been embraced by thousands of fans worldwide," stated Shout! Factory founding partners. "We're excited with the alliance and the premiere opportunity to bring this television property to multiple generations of fans." Adapted from the long-running graphic novels by the late cartoon artist Hergé (a.k.a. Georges Rémi), The Adventures of Tintin, co-produced by Nelvana and Ellipsanime Productions, chronicles the young and intrepid investigative reporter Tintin and his faithful dog Snowy, along with Captain Haddock, the muddled genius Professor Calculus, the bumbling detectives the Thompson Twins as they embark on globe-trotting adventures full of excitement, mind-boggling mystery and fun. The DVD release will also herald the upcoming 3D motion capture feature film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.
Originally created as a French comic strip in the late 1920s, The Adventures of Tintin spawned a series of popular graphic novels, translated in 80 languages and published in over 50 countries, an animated TV series (1990s), a BBC radio series (1992) and stage plays.

In today's predictable news, Fox has renewed Animation Domination favorites Family Guy for a tenth season and The Cleveland Show for a fourth season. Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said in a press release yesterday, "For nine seasons, our viewers have been cracked up, delighted, surprised and, at times, gloriously disturbed by the mind of Seth MacFarlane - and they keep coming back for more. The Griffins and the Browns have become cornerstones of our Sunday nights, and we can't wait to find out what new adventures Seth, Mike and Rich cook up for them next season." Following the announcement, Kevin gave Seth a big smooch on the behind and shoved a gift basket full of Benjamins in his arms.

Everything old is new again, no? We've got Boomerang, which airs cartoons like Powerpuff Girls and The Pink Panther; we've got The Hub which airs reinvented versions of Transformers and My Little Pony; Nickelodeon will soon air a block of programming called "The '90s Are All That" that includes The Rugrats and Doug. Now Classic Media, property owners of classic cartoons such as Rocky and Bullwinkle and Felix the Cat is teaming up with Luken Communications to create a retro-style cartoon channel called PBJ, according to bloggers Cartoon Brew. Color me excited!

The Looney Tunes Show on Cartoon Network is another version of the original Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartoon. Now, however, these classic characters are dealing with modern-day problems. Plus, they have a whole new look with angles and drop shadows. The new version is mediocre, though I'm hopeful for future episodes to be better as the writers and animators settle into a groove.
