Saturday April 30, 2011

Millions of people around the world tuned in to watch the live broadcast of the royal marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.  Though I didn't watch it live, I've seen clips from the wedding posted everywhere on the internet.  In several of those clips I heard classical music, so I thought I'd do a little digging to find what pieces of music were performed at the wedding.  Thankfully, I didn't have to dig too deep (or really at all)!  About.com's very own Guide to Weddings had already put together a list of music performed during the ceremony with links to YouTube clips.  Check out the complete list of the Royal Wedding Ceremony Music.

Happy Easter, Everyone!

Sunday April 24, 2011

Happy Easter, everyone!  Did you know that Handel's Messiah was intended to be performed during Lent?  This famous work, composed in 1741, was first performed on April 13, 1742, in Dublin's Music Hall.  Due to the buzz created by the previous night's rehearsal, the premiere performance sold out and hundreds of people had to be turned away.  To this day, Handel's Messiah is just as popular as ever, though it is now mostly performed during Christmas.  Hear one of the most well known choruses the world has ever known: Handel's "Halleluja" Chorus.
