We are just a few days away from
Mother's Day. The official date for Mother's Day this year in the US is May 8. So now is the time to begin preparing any activities, travel, or gift purchases for this special occasion. My childhood was probably pretty typical of a young girl growing up in the fifties and sixties. Mom stayed at home with us kids while Dad went to work. Mom was burdened with mundane housework and playing referee to frequent arguments between my older sister and me. She was a member of the PTA and signed on as an assistant with the local Brownie troop. She was also our chief chauffeur ushering us to and from school and church youth events.
A few years ago I published the article Life Lessons I Learned from My Mother. You are invited to share your "nurturing Mom" stories. What lesson did your mom instill in that you are especially grateful for? Was it a tough lesson to learn? Are you teaching your children the same values you learned from your mother? Dear Eileen,
I often think about what it would be like to feel the embrace of an angel. To be told that everything is going to be okay. I would like to think that someone loves me unconditionally and wants to help me. One time I thought I heard a man's voice in my room at night calling my name to wake me from falling off the side of my bed. How I wish to believe it was truly an angel. Please tell me if you can. Do I have a guardian angel that loves me unconditionally?

Dear Christina,
As I read your question I could feel the overwhelming and unconditional love from your guardian angel come through - just like the embrace you would like to feel. I also received the message that many other people need to know the answer to your question. So for all readers, know that without a doubt your angel is always with you and loves you, shadows and all.
In fact, the love your guardian angel has for you is beyond our comprehension. All who choose to experience life on Earth have a guardian angel with a love so encompassing, complete, absolute and unwavering that we as humans have rarely experienced it. Due to the sometimes challenging experiences on Earth we tend to experience love that has conditions. Or we experience the painful loss of love, limiting love and false love. So, it is hard for us to comprehend a love that knows our every thought and deed, positive or negative, and still burns with a pure intensity that can only be Divine love.
You see, our guardian angels are from the angelic realm unlike spirit guides who were once human. Our guardian angels are a pure and divine aspect of what you think of as "God." The Alpha and the Omega, the All That Is. Great Spirit, The Creator, The Source, the Supreme Being. They are "of God," a part of God, not separate from God. Their purpose is to do God's work in our physical worlds. Their love for us, like the love of The Creator, has no boundaries, limits or judgments. It knows you since you first sparked from The Creator and will know you on your final return. They see you as the most incredible, perfect, innocent and miraculous being. To your guardian angel you are a magnificent creation and all is washed clean in their eyes. You are beloved.
Christina you are a joy to your guardian angel and never anything else but that. And when you succeed in even the smallest task your angel rejoices in it because he loves you so very much.
Know that you are not alone. It would be a wonderful thing to your angel if you read through the many suggestions in the Ask An Angel Archives on how you can strengthen the connection to your guardian angel. Your angel tells me it would help to lift your moods and lighten your energy, and in time, you will feel his presence in your own way, and that will be a comfort to you.

ABC's cancellation of
All My Children and
One Life to Live has left many of their viewers saddened and angry. You can count me in among the sad viewers. Watching episodes of
All My Children has served me well for many years as an escapism therapy. I was in high school when
All My Children (AMC) premiered in 1970. But it wasn't until a couple of years later that I became engrossed in the story lines and began connecting with the characters. My son was born in 1973 and I would watch AMC when he was napping. The show was a respite for me. I also watched
The Young and the Restless for a couple of years, but that show never resonated with me like AMC and I lost interest. I've never watched
One Life to Live.
I have never been embarrassed about admitting that my favorite time of every week day is watching AMC. Laugh, if you will, but seriously, tuning in to AMC is a form of therapy for me. It is one hour that I am able to tune-out, a much appreciated mind-numbing exercise. I work from home and can easily get absorbed in my work and forget to eat throughout the day, but I never forget to watch my soap. I usually watch AMC in the afternoon... but with the help of my TIVO my hour of relaxation and personal indulgence can occur anytime of the day or night.
AMC episodes will continue to air through the summer, the soap is scheduled to end in September 2011. There are several petitions, campaigns, and boycotts underway that are being initiated by faithful viewers trying to save both AMC and OLTL. I won't be signing any petitions or jumping onto any band wagons. Although, if their actions are successful I will be eternally grateful. I'm more of a go with the flow type of gal. I understand a beloved television show's cancellation may feel like the loss of a friend or family, but it is not the same thing. Granted, after 41 years of being on the air, this change will require some emotional adjustments for me and for others.
I am going to try to look at this turn of events as a gift of five hours each week. And in this fast-paced world five hours is a wonderful gift. I'm already toying with "alternative therapy" ideas of how to fill the void. But, until September, I'm going to continue watching Erica, Tad, Kendall, David, Jesse and Angie, Ryan and Greenlee, and all the other characters living out their soapland lives... (I feel badly for the actors and crew losing their jobs, more people joining the unemployment lines is the real sad story here).
