Happy Independence Day, America. If you are fishing today and on the water, be careful. There are probably more boats on the water on this day than any other day of the year. Always remember - safety first!! Enjoy the day, remember our troops, and celebrate freedom!!

With lightening strikes being at an all time high in Florida this year, this true story points out the need to be careful. It has rained literally every afternoon and heavy thunderstorms full of lightening have plagued us for weeks. Pay heed!

Water temperature plays such an important part in fishing that every angler needs to pay attention and react to even subtle variances. Fish are no different than a lot of animals when it comes to heat and cold. They want to stay comfortable. Every time I head out from a ramp, I look at the tide situation and I tell myself - I need to do a piece on watching the tides.
This time I'm not talking necessarily about fishing, rather about safe boating. I took a picture as I headed out on the last trip, of the channel entrance and the local marker that shows the way. Later that afternoon when I came back in I took another picture - this one at low tide - to try and show you where boaters can make some very big mistakes.
