Azerbaijan first competed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 and three years later the small nation of less than 10,000,000 has taken home a victory finishing first among 43 countries taking part. The winning song is titled "Running Scared" and performed by the duo Ell and Nikki. Italy came in second and Sweden was third. Among notable competitors, Ireland's representatives Jedward, who came to fame competing on X Factor, finished well out of the running in the #8 spot, but that was better than the UK's much publicized attempt to contend for the title. The reformed boy band Blue ended up #11. However, that was significantly better than the UK's last place #25 finish in 2010. With Azerbaijan winning this year's Eurovision Song Contest, the 2012 competition will take place in their capital city of Baku.
