Connecting Life and Learning: Teaching to the Whole Person
The Engelhard Project for Connecting Life and Learning
promotes teaching to the whole person and engaged learning through curriculum infusion—the introduction of wellness topics into the regular academic content of a course. In keeping with Georgetown’s focus on social justice, some courses also include work in local communities through community-based learning. The project is a unique collaboration between Academic and Student Affairs at the university, with CNDLS serving as the administrative home and the lead on faculty development and assessment.
Engelhard courses are rewarding for students and faculty alike, thanks to the meaningful relationships built between students and faculty, the intellectual seriousness with which health and wellness issues are addressed inside the classroom, and the dedication of campus health professionals who carefully prepare for and conduct class discussions on sensitive topics.
The Engelhard Project receives funding from the Charles Engelhard Foundation of New York through the Bringing Theory to Practice Project
and through Georgetown University's Engelhard Endowment for Engaged Learning.
