Tunis-Afrique Presse (TAP) News Agency was launched on January 1st, 1961. It has, since, undergone changes in harmony with the progress of the media setting in Tunisia, thus confirming its mission and status as a chief source of information on the national scene.
TAP provides news round-the-clock, seven days a week, and covers national current events in It has on its staff 300 employees including 220 journalists, photo-reporters and documentalists, together with a network of reporters and bureaus nationwide.
TAP covers national events and broadcasts an international news bulletin.
It broadcasts on average 250 news items a day.
Its photographic department provides its customers—newspapers, magazines and periodicals—with a targeted product. The department is equipped with an ultramodern laboratory and a photo library hosting an extensive collection of pictures dating back to the 1930s and which related several stages of Tunisian history.
Its documentation department keeps documents, references, files and data that are derived from the agency’s news services, together with Arab and international agencies’ news items and newspaper and magazine articles and features published in Tunisia and abroad.
The documentation department is also to set up a multipurpose data base open to the local network and making it possible to process information and multiple data.
