At least four dead in Syria protests
According to news reports, demonstrations were held Friday in several cities, including in the southern city of Daraa and in Lattakia.
Eyewitnesses said that Syrian security forces killed at least three protesters in Duma, a southern suburb of Damascus, adding that the three were among at least 2000 people who chanted slogans demanding freedom when security forces fired in order to disperse them.
Protesters were demanding freedom amid a heavy presence of Syrian security forces.
There were unconfirmed reports of demonstrations in the province of Hasaka, especially in the cities of Qamishli and the Raqqa. Eyewitnesses said protesters marched in Raqqa after Friday prayers and returned to their homes without causing any problems. A witness said that the demonstrations were held in the Syrian city of Homs – one supported President Bashar al-Assad while another rally was against him.
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department warned American citizens against traveling to Syria and called on them to consider leaving the country which has been experiencing protests for the past two weeks.
